Jeera rice (Indian rice recipe)

Servings: Serves 2
Ingredients:
1 cup basmati rice, uncooked
1¾ cup water ( or 1½ cup )
2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)
1 tbsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1 bay leaf
Salt to taste
Method:
- Wash and soak the basmati rice for 20 mins. Then drain the water completely.
- In a medium pot, heat the ghee in medium flame. Then, add cumin seeds and bay leaf. Fry it for few seconds.
- Add soaked basmati rice into the pot and saute it for a minute to get the aroma of the rice.
- Add 1¾ cup of water & salt and bring it to a boil. Cover with a lid and lower the flame.
- Keep cooking on a low flame till the rice is done and the water has evaporated. This will take around 10-12 mins.
- Turn off the flame and the jeera rice is ready to taste.
- Uncover the pot and gently fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
- Serve hot with any curry, kurma or dal of your choice.
