PITTSBURGH, PA — (November 8, 2019) — For the past four months since July, our team has been working to refine and bulletproof our AI curriculums and teaching guides in our own facility.

We started an afterschool program, “ReadyAI Lab Workshop”, with the intention to trial our curriculums, test their compatibility with the hardware and measure how much our curriculums would help students improve in a set and controlled environment. We want to observe, assess, and reflect on students’ feedbacks, reactions, and learning outcomes to revise our teaching materials and methodologies accordingly. Thus, we designed a vibrant and colorful classroom and installed our AI-IN-A-BOX™ in it.

The curriculums we teach are the ReadyAI Lab Beginner Course and Intermediate Course:

The Beginner Course is a 4-session program that provides basic knowledge in artificial intelligence. Students are expected to have a better understanding of AI by further learning the Five Big Ideas, including Perception, Representation, Machine Learning, Human-AI Interaction, and Societal Impact. They will get to explore these ideas by interacting with the latest technology and programming their assigned units to accomplish simple AI applications, such as facial recognition, object manipulation, and speech generation, with Cozmo and Calypso.

The Intermediate Course is another 4-session program that aims to provide students more in-depth knowledge in AI. It is the continuation of our Beginner Course that focuses more on project designs, programming knowledge, and presentation skills. To successfully graduate, students are expected to complete a project that uses AI to address a real-world problem, which requires higher program complexity, better understanding of AI applications, and storytelling techniques.

So far, we have had students of a wide range of ages and from a variety of backgrounds and school districts came into our lab and completed the courses. Most importantly, they enjoyed the learning journey and wanted to know more about AI. It is exciting, because we believe the diversity is contributive to our continual improvement process to make sure our curriculums can be applied and integrated into science classes or after school programs for children all across the country, regardless of their educational and social circumstances. They deserve the access to learn about something that is most likely to reshape our lives and society in the not too distant future.

If you are interested in enrolling your children to our programs, register to our new cohort.
