So, first things first. Before I clarify what the Rockefeller Foundation has recently committed to, I am going to bring up the root of their actions. You’ll want to read this.

2015 Paris Agreement, what was agreed to?

A bit of old news here, but still, this is a quite relevant topic today. I mean, these are long-term goals that were set. Around nine years ago, leaders from almost every country in the world participated in massive and urgent negotiations around the recognition of climate change. The goal of these negotiations? To take action. Actions toward mitigating climate change.

Goal #1: To limit the increase in global average temperature.

Goal #2: To help countries deal with the repercussions of climate change.

Of course, the agreements that were set are much more detailed and concise, but to achieve surface-level knowledge of what happened in 2015, this is plenty.

Speaking about goals, the Rockefeller Foundation just set one and is implementing one that everyone who is in support of mitigating climate change is going to be pretty pumped about. This next part is interesting.

The Rockefeller Foundation’s big announcement

Before the annual United Nations Climate Change Conference took place at the end of 2023(Nov 30-Dec 12), the Rockefeller Foundation announced a massive shift in their endowment. They are committing to achieve Net-Zero Greenhouse Emissions(GHG) by 2050. Even writing that sentence felt like a big deal. And it is. Mainly because it's precedential. This move makes them the largest private U.S. foundation to take steps in this direction.

Global decarbonization is the main goal here. A goal that aligns with the 2015 Paris Agreement. Dr. Rajiv J. Shah, President of the Rockefeller Foundation, says that the aim is to have net-zero emissions across ALL operations. Anyone who knows anything about this foundation knows this is a massive power move in a very positive direction. One of many very important steps towards cooling the earth.

An inspiration to be acknowledged

So, the Rockefeller Foundation was established in 1913 with its original endowment being $100 million. Since then? Well, they have had many. Somewhere around $26 billion has been invested. Main connoisseur? John D. Rockefeller. His philanthropic investments are something to be appreciative of. He has a massive portfolio when it comes to investments that benefit large groups of people. I suggest taking a quick dive into his life in this short story.

As far as solutions to climate change, this one is big. Mainly due to the fact that a big foundation is making power moves to ensure its mitigation. My way to help mitigate climate change and ensure food security is tied to writing about it to create exposure, and I am also running a content marketing agency called Agri Cause Media, where I work with AgTech companies to help get their marketing messages across more effectively. More farmers who adopt new agricultural technology means the agricultural sector will be less of a problem as it relates to climate change and, on top of that, more of a solution for food security. That’s it for me, till my next piece of agricultural news!
