How I Discovered My Calling And Embraced Entrepreneurship
From childhood dreams to pursuing multiple ventures.
When did you know what you were meant to do?
You know, as it concerns your career?
(Don’t worry if you’re still unsure, as it’s not uncommon for this to be the case)
As for me, I remember it like it was yesterday!
So, I was 4 (maybe 5) years old at the time, and it came to me during a trip to the off-license (liquor store) with my Mum.
Once inside, my Mum asked me if I wanted to get chocolate (a bar of candy).
To which I replied, "Yes”.
Then, while glancing over at the selection of chocolate bars, I noticed that there were two that really stood out:
Now, to my right was a chocolate called Crunchie (packaged in a yellowish/golden wrapper), while to the left of it was a chocolate called Kit Kat (packaged in a bright red wrapper).
To my surprise, I chose the Kit Kat over the Crunchie, despite Crunchie being what initially stood out to me.
(Although, I came to learn how Colour Psychology played a huge role here, a couple of years later)
Anywho, when I returned to the car with my mum, I asked her about the exchange of money between her and the shopkeeper, as this really fascinated me.
"Oh, that’s business," she said.
To which I replied, "When I grow up, I’m going to be a businesswoman", as I leaned back in the front passenger seat of the car, feeling all grown ☺️
However, after attempting to launch several businesses shortly after, ranging from my very own off-license to a lingerie line (having been inspired by Madonna’s Madame X Tour). I soon realized that I was not cut out to be just a business owner.
No. Instead, I was destined to become a successful entrepreneur with multiple businesses under my belt.
(Who, at the time, I envisioned was a person that would go around to each business, before they closed, collecting their share of the profit with a large money bag ☺️)
Since I liked the idea of having multiple businesses, and still having time to enjoy my personal life.
Anywho, a few decades later, I’m still enthusiastic about doing business. To the extent that, I now work as a business consultant, helping others along the pathway to business success.
I’ve even gotten to the point where I now run my own digital marketing agency that is aimed at helping parents in the business, and I’m currently in the process of launching a new business support network.
However, none of this has come without its fair share of difficulties, which most people can relate to on their own journeys, I guess?
So, as you go throughout your day, I challenge you to think about what truly motivates and excites you.
If you already know this, please do tell me.
Finally, don’t worry if you’re having trouble coming up with ideas here. Since you still have time to find your way.
