At the beginning of the year, I wasn’t in a good place. I was in hospital suffering a relapse of mania.

My life came to a standstill.

Once I picked myself up off the floor, I wanted to learn strategies that would help me along and provide new focus.

Following one-to-one time with a healthcare professional, I chose to focus on the three main aspects of well-being that through practicing, in my everyday living, have provided me with a more balanced mindset.

1) Mindfulness

2) Gratitude

3) Trust the universe

I would like to share with you how these things have shaped my new way of thinking. And, what is more, how I see them working.

FIRSTLY, MINDFULNESS –

It would appear I was attempting to ‘control’ my life, by living in next week, or even next month. I read somewhere once that this way of thinking would mean that you miss what is in front you and that the only moment we really have is the present moment.

When we practice mindfulness we have a shift in thought focus. In doing so, I have been able to live in the moment. It helps me to alleviate any anxiety or rumination. Both of which I succumb to regularly.

Living mindfully has helped me to live in the moment instead of days and weeks, months ahead. In fact, I am now able to see how pointless trying to control life is. We live in the here and now. We can often worry about future events. Yet, when we get there, events may not be as fearful as we thought they would be.

You will never get this moment back. So try to live in this moment and see where it takes you. What might happen rarely happens. Have you noticed that?

SECONDLY, GRATITUDE – practising gratitude not only makes you humble, but it also allows for more good things to come your way.

It is a worthy act. It can take your mind to a better, healthy place. I practice gratitude for everything good that happens. Doors open. Opportunities present themselves as if by magic. I have been offered a much welcomed variation in my job role, for example.

Through making these ways of being a focus of my daily life, I have also been introduced to new people that are able to help me progress in life. Of course, I am very grateful for all of this!

THIRDLY, TRUST THE UNIVERSE -

Everything is energy. We vibrate at a certain frequency. I believe this explains that if we are sad/negative, or happy/positive, then that is what we get fed back to us.

This has been a revelation for me. Trusting something that can’t be seen. Learning that things mainly happen for our sole purpose. Knowing this had helped me move forward when experiencing setbacks.

I know this can be easier said than done. I’m still learning myself, right down to the universe having my back right down to believing we receive signs in amidst the chaos of our day.

I am not naive to hold us to account for all our misfortune. Overall, at the end of the day, it’s about how this mood we are in makes us feel.

I’ve shared a sample of how I’ve changed my thinking to a way that works for me.

What mindset have you adopted to help you along your journey?

I like to write from experience in the hope it resonates with others 😊
