Mind — Who Leads It?

This was the Thursday prayer in my school. When I read the third line from the bottom, “Where the mind is led forward by thee,” I got stuck at the word “thee”. I knew it to be an archaic form of “You” — lexicon wasn’t my concern. My concern was: Who is this “thee”!!

It bewildered me to think that it’s someone else, unknown to me, who is leading me to some destination that I am not aware of!

Bewildered I was, but not scared. Courage is my birthright and I exercise it fearlessly. So, irrespective, I moved on to the following line in the prayer and then wondered if “my Father”, as mentioned in the last line, is the answer to my concern.

I checked this with my Dad and asked if he will lead me. He laughed and said, “You will lead yourself!”

That wasn’t the answer I was looking for! It brought me back to square one, the word “You” a.k.a. “Thee”. I was again bewildered for a moment. But the next moment, I jumped with joy! I realized, this time, “You” referred to me!

I love my Dad, and take whatever he says to be true! [He is a lawyer (which my Mom prefers pronouncing as ‘liar’, whenever she is upset with him) and presents his case with the least words possible—the words that leave others speechless. My words too, I’m told, leave others speechless, but unlike Dad’s, they are always in excess!]. So, that night, I read that prayer once again.

I chose my destination and chartered my path in uncharted terrain. Fear was never an obstacle. After all, I knew I was the one leading me toward my chosen destination.

Riding the wave of life and navigating its crests and troughs like a well-balanced surfer is a skill, which I know I will master only when I make waves. Write in a way that inspires, challenges, empowers and effects positive change! It is with this intentional quest of making a dent in the Universe, I chose Medium as a medium to carry my waves from its source to its destination.

And, by the way, waves always travel through a medium — that is what I learned in Physics. So, join me as I surf up.
