Why I Treat Most Adults Today Like Kids
… and so should you.
Have you ever stopped to think that, like children, we are all doing what we believe is for the best?
So, our decisions are often driven by the belief that we make the right choices.
Well, I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, and it’s finally led me to treat most adults as I would small children; recognizing their limited awareness and maturity to consider the well-being of others.
Anywho, having said that, allow me to share an experience that helped shape this new perspective of mine, as it should help you better understand where I’m coming from with all of this:
So, I once went out for a bite to eat with an old friend of mine and her 3-year-old son. As we were leaving the restaurant, the little boy noticed one of my large earrings and tried yanking it out of my ear.
My friend kept apologizing for her son’s actions, but I kept reassuring her that everything was fine. After all, he was a young child who couldn’t understand the full extent of his actions.
Instead, it’s likely that he found my earring fascinating and wanted to investigate it further; believing it was in his best interest for him to do so.
Surprisingly, the same can be said for most adults today, who often behave selfishly; making decisions for their own benefit, and with little regard for the well-being of others.
A trend that may be linked to a rise in the number of broken homes and, as a result, poor childhood upbringing 🤔
So, what do you do when you encounter such individuals?
Well, while some people choose to argue with them in an attempt to change their minds, or lecture them to vent their frustration, I’ve recently decided to accept them for who they are; adjusting my response based on our relationship.
All while treating them like kids, by recognizing their limited awareness and maturity to consider others.
Understanding that we are all still learning and evolving has enabled me to demonstrate this new level of empathy.
Plus, the more we encounter meaningful experiences and expand our knowledge, the better we understand the importance of empathy in our dealings with others.
Therefore, allow this post to inspire you to embrace a new perspective that acknowledges the childlike mindset within us all; unlocking tremendous personal and collective growth potential as a result.
Since, with this new understanding, you too can approach life’s complexities with an empathetic and forgiving outlook; knowing that we all strive to do what we believe is right and that patience is key.
