From Big Pimpin’ to Human Trafficking: Surviving Diddy Part 5
The ways of the world have changed…
The hip-hop game has come a long way since the reign of Jay-Z.
Nevertheless, the influence remains. For instance, although, per his own admission, the creation of tracks such as Big Pimpin’ was the bane of his career, as of today, pimp culture is still very prominent within the hip-hop and Black community overall.
Now, to be clear, I am by no means blaming the popularity of pimp culture squarely on the shoulders of Sean Carter. However, even he admitted that his attitudes and degrading lyrics were especially egregious towards women.
And I very much believe this lamentation to be genuine because he, like many men, has grown up and now has daughters of his own. This means he is probably deathly afraid of his bad karma being passed down to his own offspring. So, if we’re going to have this conversation, the legacy of Jay-Z is as good a place to start as any.
And let’s not forget Diddy, who has uttered words such as the following:
This big ‘Ball mayn, P. Diddy and MJG
