How many leaderboards does Reality Cards need?

Way too many!

At its core, Reality Cards employs time-based prediction market elements where it doesn’t matter how much you are paying; it only matters how long you have owned a Card. Every second of ownership counts as it increases your possible returns.

Card Leaderboards

When it comes to collecting, every second really counts, as each Card has its own Leaderboard where all players compete for the same goal: to achieve first place and keep the Card’s NFT!

While an event is open for predictions, players can only rent the Card and gain temporary ownership of its NFT. When you rent a Card, the actual NFT is transferred to your wallet, and you are indeed its owner. But, anyone can take it away from you by paying a higher rental price. That’s how players accumulate seconds, hours, even days of ownership on a Card.

Once an event reaches its closing time and the winning Card is revealed (corresponding to the outcome that happened in real life), the NFT becomes a reward in itself that can be claimed by the player with the longest ownership time at the ending moment.

After claiming the NFT, true ownership of it is now given to the player. The NFT will stay in the player’s wallet and be visible in their Reality Cards Collection until they choose to transfer it away or sell it on an NFT marketplace (like any other NFT).

During an event, advancing on a Card’s Leaderboard is essential for collectors. But what happens after the event has ended? Well, the Leaderboard will always be there commemorating your rank, whether it’s the first place, second place, or lower. However, with many other open events, few people will pay attention to it anymore. Instead, their attention will shift to the next event. And the next. And the one after that.

At Reality Cards, we don’t want your progress to be temporary any longer! That’s why we are introducing the Global Leaderboard. Or should we say… Global Leaderboards!

Global Leaderboards

Almost two months ago, we added our first Global Leaderboard, where we ranked all players based on the time owned of winning outcomes. Reality Cards is a prediction market and we want those who are guessing right to be acknowledged.

We’ve seen your excitement but also your discouragement. Time owned is a value that is always increasing. Our platform has only been live (in open beta) for three months, but it already feels like new players can’t keep up with those who have been around from the beginning. We want to reward our early adopters but, at the same time, we also want to give the new players a chance.

With that said, time owned of winning outcomes isn’t going anywhere. It will be one of the three Global Leaderboards!

NFTs Collected Leaderboard

The NFTs Leaderboard is fun, and it’s evolving. Currently, we are counting every NFT won by each player, those who have reached first place on a Card’s Leaderboard (regardless of whether the Card is a winner or a loser). This is a way to immortalise the best players’ progress on the individual Leaderboards. At this stage, it feels like a winner-take-all, which is why we plan to upgrade this Leaderboard in time and are considering adding other types of NFTs that you can win on Reality Cards (stay tuned!), also differentiating between a winning NFT and a losing one.

Profit Leaderboard

Now, here’s where the real competition begins! Profit is simply the difference between returns (winnings) and investment (rent paid) from all the Cards and every event you’ve participated in on Reality Cards.

Being right early on, playing a lower price, owning the Card for a long time — all these can get you closer to the top of the Profit Leaderboard.

Be aware, though, that placing first on a winning Card’s Leaderboard doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve made the most profit. There are cases where a player reaches first place but has to pay a very high price and sacrifice their profit to compete with the other players and win the NFT.

Maximising your profits on Reality Cards is no longer just about getting high returns on your investment, but rather making a knowledgeable prediction, advancing up the latest Leaderboard, and getting appreciation from other players!

Enough Leaderboards?

For now, yes. For the future? We don’t know yet. Reality Cards will continue to evolve around the needs of players. That’s why your feedback is highly appreciated. If we need a fourth, fifth, or even a scoring system that combines all these Leaderboards, we will ensure we analyse the matter from all angles and present it to you nicely packaged.

The Global Leaderboards will play an important role in 2022, so make sure you keep grinding and advancing to the top!
