Looking Back
It began in a tiny office with a very small team in the heart of Belltown — seven years ago I started my RealSelf journey. The entire company was only about 10 employees, three of whom were focused on product and engineering. Our team has grown significantly since then — Now almost 90 of our 275 team members are focused on designing the best product for a topic that’s both sensitive and increasingly part of pop culture. It’s through our successes and failures that we’ve grown and sharing our stories is a way to pay it forward.
Startups go through many phases of growth, and we were no different. Candidates have often asked me why i’ve stayed with RealSelf for over 7 years, my answer has always been that it’s a different job every year. I’ve enjoyed the experience being part of an amazing team that continually demonstrates their ability to adapt, grow, and learn.
Looking back at the last seven years of product, engineering, and design at RealSelf is a story of introspection, learning, and continued transformation. It comes down to the people, and how we empower and enable them to do what they do best. We have smart people with valuable stories about how and why they are building the largest, most-trusted, destination for consumers in medical beauty.
