Absence

#

I thought you dead
Just for a minute.
Is this what it’s like?
Loneliness, and
A surge of emotion in a bookshop?
Just for a while
The wax of humanity about me
And I, alone.
With no-one to talk to
And thousands upon thousands of words swelling about me.
Demanding my solitary attention
And you, on a trip abroad.
A sudden fear had gripped me.
Your hand was missing from mine.
