Should You Reframe Giving Your Heart Away?
Give your heart OR Give your love
We talk about broken hearts when relationships fall apart or one party decides to end it. We talk about a broken heart after someone’s spouse passes away, and the surviving spouse who passes away shortly after due to a broken heart.
We have been taught to “give our heart” to the person we love. It’s in our songs, our movies, and our novels, but after your heart has been broken, it becomes more difficult to trust another person with your heart.
The heart is one of, if not the, most vital organs we have. If it is not beating, we are pronounced to have passed on from this life. Yet, when we fall in love, we tend to give more than our love to another person: we give that person our heart — our most vital organs.
In December 2024, the lyrics to a well-known Christmas song got me thinking about the heart and loving someone.
Wham! “Last Christmas”
Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, you gave it away
This, year, to save me from tears
I’ll give it to someone special
Still looking for love, but afraid to get your heart broken — — — again?
