There comes a time in every generation when the call must sound for the people to come together for the greater good. They gathered at Woodstock. The Avengers assembled. And now… it’s our turn!

This October, we are calling all Rebels to unite for a celebration of the Rebel Makers community as we embark on a full day of playing, building and learning with technology. We couldn’t be more excited to introduce and invite you to… Rebel Makers Camp.

Rebel Makers Camp will take place for the first time this autumn in Birmingham. The Camp will convene on Saturday 29th October — on the final weekend of the half term school holidays — in the hope of bringing together the Rebel Makers communities from across the UK to meet and share their projects, passions and ambitions with each other.

But it’s not only for already card carrying Rebels. Rebel Makers Camp will be an opportunity for those not part of a Club to experience first hand the creativity and collaboration of our community. Camp will showcase the true potential of the Rebel Makers community by showcasing our Rebels themselves; exploring the journey they’ve taken as part of Rebel Makers, the experiences they’ve shared and the many places it can and will take them in the future.

To extend the reach and possibility of the inaugural Rebel Makers Camp, we are extremely excited to be partnering with BrumHack. Taking place on the same weekend, and being hosted in the same venue, Birmingham’s largest student hackathon will not only extend the awesome for our Rebels, but it will give them a chance to experience the cooperation and friendly competition of a 150 person student hackathon.

Although we haven’t nailed down the specific content of this day of wonder, we have cemented our plan and structure. Here’s what we know:

Rebel Makers Camp is a chance for absolutely everyone to experience the awesome atmosphere of a Rebel Makers Club as part of a specially extended one day festival. Over the course of the day attendees will be invited to showcase their ideas and projects, share skills, participate in workshops and experience the latest technologies.

Workshops

Staying true to our mantra of ‘playing, building, learning for everyone’, we are putting together a stream of intriguing, inspiring and downright impressive workshops. With something for every skill level, we’ll set out to cover a broad spectrum of topics to extend skills and teach new ones.

Talks

In our efforts to highlight awesome stories, showcase exciting technology and inspire our Rebels with brilliant minds, we are curating a fun-filled and thought provoking stream of talks from friends, partners and members of the Rebel Makers community.

We’ll also look to explore some of our thinking behind Rebel Makers as a movement, and why we think it is a way to positively address issues such as the digital skills gap, social isolation and empowering absolutely everyone to experience the benefits of a culture of ‘lifelong learning’.

Social

We’ll put aside time and set up special breakout spaces for you to make the most of the social opportunity Rebel Makers Camp presents. During these times we’d love you to get to know your fellow Rebels while welcoming newcomers into our amazing community. This is your chance to network and expand your horizons with fellow digital makers from Brum and beyond.

As has become our familiar rallying cry, we’re launching Rebel Makers Camp with a call for input from you. It’s important to us that this celebration of our community is reflective of the community, so we’d like to invite your thoughts, ideas and input to shape the agenda of the day. Be sure to share your inspiration for workshops, talks and general shenanigans via the form on our site or in the dedicated box on our registration form.

We hope you’ll answer our call Rebels — all Rebel Makers Camp needs to make it truly epic is you! See you in October.
