Love: Is It All We Need?
Have you ever had one of those weekends that leaves you feeling profoundly changed?
This weekend has been like that for me.
I’ve always had an activist heart and I have always been a truth seeker. I want to make the world a better place.
But that has ramped up to a level where I have been consumed by it in the last couple of years.
I campaigned at a grass roots level for Bernie Sanders and converted people through my enthusiasm and through love. Yes, I even converted some Republicans.
But then Bernie didn’t win the nomination. And I don’t support Hillary for a few reasons (fracking and regime change being two big reasons).
This article, however, is not about that. I live in Utah which is a Red State and has only 6 Electoral College votes so my vote in the General was never going to make much difference.
But I am sad to say that my behavior towards Hillary and SOME of her supporters was not very loving or kind. I tried to stick to policies not personalities but I was not always loving or compassionate about it. I have an Aries South Node in the third house which, almost unconsciously, leads me to resistance to compromise and thoughtless self-assertion. I also have FOUR planets in Sagittarius which is renowned for having the shadow of being dogmatic at times. Not an excuse, just showing how astrology works :)
My karmic potential, the thing I am CONSTANTLY working to develop, is cooperation, increased awareness of others needs and seeing through another’s eyes. Also speaking from a higher consciousness. And I am very aware that I didn’t always do that during the General Election.
I am, however, always open to learning from my experiences. And I have had some mind blowing awarenesses this very weekend.
I attended an amazing talk held by Our Utah which I live streamed with permission from the presenter, Dr David Pulsipher. The title was Confrontational Compassion: a Discussion on Unflinching Engagement. Here are the live streams which I can HIGHLY recommend watching even though it’s fairly long. It was one of the most impactful trainings I have EVER attended.

This was about tactics used mainly in the Nashville Lunch Counter Sit Ins led by James Lawson and by Ghandi as Civil Disobedience.
I knew about a lot of this, of course, but what I now more fully understand is the deepest vision of the concepts and this is what blew my mind.
- Have a clear objective for each action
- Use non complimentary response to flip the script (very difficult to do)
- Love those that you oppose
- It cannot be compassionate if it’s done in anger
- To be open to their humanity even if they are not open to yours
- Have empathy and recognize that they are likely to feel threatened by Confrontational Compassion
- Be willing to absorb violence
- Make this about what is right not who is right
- That Confrontational Compassion has to be very organized and well trained. We are going against our own nature of fight or flight to do this well.
- Done well this can result in Conversion, Accommodation and more.
There was so much more to this and I am still processing so I invite you to watch the videos yourself.
But what did my activist heart learn personally?
- I must practice compassion for every being on the earth
- I get to speak from a higher consciousness — for me that will mean pausing before responding and calling in that higher consciousness
- That this needs training and discipline, it doesn’t magically happen for most of us. Some retreat from confrontation in fear, some react with anger. It’s classic fight or flight which is in built. But that doesn’t mean we have to live by that if we choose a different way.

5. Love is all we need AND we need action. To love is a verb. It takes action. The Warrior path is not for everyone but we need more Love Warriors to step up if we are to bring people together. Love Warriors who are prepared to sacrifice for the good of others and Mother Earth. Love Warriors who are prepared to train themselves to see the humanity in those they oppose and to find a peaceful way.
Movements are beginning all over the world as more and more people find this way. I have yet to find the one I am truly affiliated with. But I know I want to go back to how I felt during the Bernie campaign. I want to fight FOR something. I am done fighting against. Which is why I hardly ever utter Drumpf’s name. I cannot bring anger to this. It’s too important. But I will use Confrontational Compassion in every moment of his Presidency.
I leave you with two printables to live by if you choose. With a reminder that I am offering a birthday special on my sessions until midnight on Dec 14th, the day of my birthday.
