Job opening: Second Lead | Gender, Sexuality and Technology

About us

Point of View is a non-profit founded in Mumbai, India in 1996 to build rights and freedoms for all genders and sexualities. That’s our vision. We address inequality by building and amplifying the voices of womxn¹ and by removing barriers to speech and expression or ‘inequalities of voice’.² That’s our mission. We started out just after the Internet had come to India; it wasn’t evident then that digital technologies would become a governing force in our lives — shaping and reconfiguring spaces, bodies, sexualities, norms and violences.

Our approach

We are a pan-India organization with a bigger global footprint. We use three core non-binary approaches:

  • Online and on-ground
  • Grassroots to global
  • Intersectional and inter-generational

We work across multiple movements — women’s rights, sexual rights, digital rights, disability justice and sex workers’ rights — in complementary ways.

Our programs

We currently work across three program areas:

  1. Gender, sexuality and technology — this is our biggest program. We equip womxn and girls with concepts, understanding, skills and tools to freely inhabit digital spaces.
  2. Gender, sexuality and disability — this, a smaller, niche program, enables womxn and girls with disabilities and their eco-systems to see themselves as sexual beings.
  3. Digital storytelling — this, a cross-cutting method more than a program, enables womxn and girls to enter, build and shape silenced conversations around sexuality and violence.

Our strategies

At its heart, our work uses five key strategies to change social norms, mindsets and cultures around gender, sexuality and violence that keep womxn in permanent states of inequality.

  1. Building skills and capacities (through trainings, workshops, conferences, information)
  2. Building knowledge and understanding (through information kits and research)
  3. Building networks and movements (through collaborations and joint actions)
  4. Building discourses and narratives (via strategic communications, incl publications/campaigns)
  5. Building evidence to inform policy (via research and strategic communications)

Our culture

is hybrid. Our team consists of women, queer and non-binary individuals and women with disabilities in their 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s. We’ve been semi-remote for the last 5 years, with team members in Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Guwahati. We’re rigorous yet informal. Structured yet flexible. We work a 40-hour work week.

Who we’re looking for

As we enter the next five years and build the POV of tomorrow, we’re looking for a key team member to join our rapidly-growing Gender, Sexuality and Technology team. The working title for this position is Second Lead, Gender, Sexuality and Technology. This is a big opportunity to work on a grassroots-to-global program through a feminist lens, using a combination of the strategies described above.

What we’re looking for

  • A solid understanding of gender, sexuality and digital technology
  • A proactive self-starter, with proven organizing abilities to independently and effectively work on multiple project elements within deadlines. This includes strong self-management skills.
  • An ability to consistently produce high-quality work and outputs
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills across multiple constituencies, including low-income communities (Indian language skills matters)
  • Someone who is detail oriented, flexible, eager to take initiative, and collaborates well with a dynamic semi-remote team

Work experience

At least 5–7 years

Location

Remote. Candidates can be based anywhere in India, but need to be available for regular communication and have access to a reliable high-speed Internet connection.

Remuneration

This is a full-time position. We offer competitive remuneration within the non-profit sector.
