Introducing Our In-House Production of a DEI Video at our rebuy location in Poznan

At rebuy, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) are not just buzzwords but integral parts of who we are. Our latest DEI video is a testament to this belief, showcasing the unique talents and diverse backgrounds of our team. From various genders, ages, roles, skills, and interests, each one of us brings something invaluable to the table, making our collective effort truly remarkable.

We extend a huge shoutout to the dedicated individuals who made this project possible:

  • Anna Waszak for writing the script and managing production
  • Julia Janczak for editing the video
  • Kuba Fryca for creating the music
  • Ola Pazoła, Natalia Kowalczyk, and Mateusz Jaworski for their recordings
  • And the 78 employees who participated in the recordings

This project was a collaborative effort, and we are grateful to everyone who supported it, even if they didn’t appear on camera.

Let’s dive into an interview with the Production Team

What inspired you to focus on diversity and inclusion for this video?

Julia: This video is a sequel to the one we created three years ago, which was very successful. Given the many recent changes we have experienced — such as expansion, relocating, and personnel changes — we decided it was time for an updated version.

How did you decide on the key messages and themes for the video?

Kinga: We approach DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) topics as a natural part of our culture, without making too much noise about it. However, it is important for us to explain how we perceive these topics. We view DEI in a very open and complex manner, recognizing our differences in many ways, not limiting it to gender, sex, and the level in the organizational structure. And this is the key message: we differ in many ways and yet still we have much in common: we are all human beings, we all work to rebuy, and we all care deeply about our mission and values.

Can you share any challenges you faced during the planning process?

Anna: Sure! We faced numerous challenges, the biggest one being logistics. Coordinating common time slots for everyone involved in the video — 78 people (!!!) — felt like a mission impossible. I had to change the agenda so many times that I eventually lost track.

Julia: Another challenge was time. We had many more ideas for showcasing diversity but didn’t want to end up creating a full-length movie, so we needed to be selective.

What was the most memorable moment during the filming?

Aleksandra: I’m impressed by the diversity of interests among my colleagues. It was a great opportunity to get to know each other even better. And many of them inspired me to try my hand at new activities!

Julia: That’s true! For the video’s needs, we had the opportunity to practice throwing different types of balls. I hope we will get invitations to the basketball or football club 😄

How did you ensure that everyone felt comfortable and included during the shoot?

Anna: First and foremost, we relied solely on volunteers 🙂

Julia: Some participants had gathered the previous video or other materials prepared by the Social Media Team. Additionally, we aimed to be open, funny, and quick.

Aleksandra: Last but not least, we incorporated the actors’ ideas to ensure they felt like co-creators in the process.

What role did each team member play in the production of the video?

Kinga: We are lucky to have a great team representing many talents. Anna Wasza was a great coordinator, and we called her the executive producer! Julia Jenczak edited the video. Jakub Fryca wrote the music. Aleksandra Pazoła, Natalia Kowalczyk, and Mateusz Jaworski operated cameras and a drone. Plus, our 78 employees participated as actors.

What feedback have you received from viewers so far?

Anna: We organized a special premiere show at the all hands meeting with our employees. It was cool to see the lively reactions, smiling faces, and loud bravo!

Aleksandra: We also monitor the reactions on social media — they are also very positive.

What did you learn from this experience that you can apply to future projects?

Anna: My main takeaway from this project is that creating videos requires a lot of work and time. You need to be organized and flexible.

Julia: I learned that you are not able to show all the ideas and shoots — you need to be selective. That is hard when so many people are involved and count on You.

How do you see this video contributing to our overall DEI initiatives?

Kinga: We hope that thanks to this video we will all be aware that DEI is an important and complex topic and we need to take care of it every day. We wanted to show that we have a wonderful and colourful team making rebuy the cool place to work.

Can you share any behind-the-scenes anecdotes or funny moments?

Anna: One day, we were filming scenes with animals and we were worried they wouldn’t get along. But fortunately, everything went smoothly. On that same day, we were also filming scenes with instruments. One of our colleagues decided to give us a small demonstration of his saxophone skills. It got really loud and everyone in the office was in shock, wondering what was happening. What made it even funnier was that Tomek’s dog decided to join in, howling along. It was one of the craziest but happiest days, because who doesn’t love animals? It would be wonderful to have them at work every day!

How did you ensure the video truly represented the diversity of our team and location?

Anna: We started with a classic brainstorming session. We wanted to list all the differences we could find among our team. Some were obvious, especially those related to gender, age, look, etc. Then, we discussed how to show different hobbies.

Julia: Many ideas came from peers. Knowing that we were preparing the video, they simply shared their ideas with us and nominated employees who could participate in the project. It was a great showcase of cooperation :)

What advice would you give to other teams looking to create a similar project?

Anna: You do not need a professional marketing agency to prepare a cool video. Accept the challenge and do it yourself!

Kinga: And look for the talents inside your organization.

Thank you for the insights and inspiration, folks!
