某中產家長：「港人有權為前途出聲，一來都係中國人，二來締造香港繁榮有功。」(p.34)
“We should have the rights to have a say in our future as mainly all Hong Kong people are Chinese and we have spent lots of [e]ffort and money on achieving the prosperity of Hong Kong.”(G2/M/31–40/With child/$3,000+)
理論上應全民投票(p.34)：
“I think it should be the four million people to vote for their fate theorectically because we are those who live in Hong Kong, why should it be others to decide our future?”(G1/H/21–30/no child/$3,000-)
“i preceive that Hong Kong people should have the right to determine their future and their opinions should be revealed.”(G3/F/21–30/No child/$3,000+)
實際無牙力，都是有錢人話事(p.34–35)：
“i am not concerned about the ‘lease’ at all because this is out of my control or my consideration..”(G1/M/21–30/No child/$3,000-)
“But in reality we, the ordinary people, have no power to decide our own future. Basically this is decided by Hong Kong’s financial groups.”(G2/M/31–40/With child/$3,000+)
即使港人意見重要，政府當局不會重視，極其量只裝作聆聽(p.35)：
“However, even though the opinions of Hong Kong people are very important, the government may not accept them.”(G4/F/31–40/with child/$3,000-)
“I think Hong Kong people are not able to determine their own future because the authority is concentrated in the Chinese and British governments. Superficially, the government will accept the opinion of the people, however, actually, the right to determine the future of Hong Kong is in the hands of the two governments.”(G3/F/21–30/No child/$3,000+)
命途由兩國商議，料中方才有最終決定權(p.36)：
“Actually, the fate of Hong Kong depends on China’s decision since Britain is not powerful enough to determine the fate of Hong Kong.”(G1/M/21–30/No child/$3,000-)
“I believe that the British government will raise her opinions of deciding the future of Hong Kong. However, the ultimate decision is in the hands of China.”(G3/F/21–30/No child/$3,000+)
