Recess

A Sandbox initiative delving into topics like personal growth, mental health and self-care.

During our preschool days most of us had but one joyful reprieve from the monotony of class. It came in the form of 15–30 minute intervals, one to two times a day: Recess.

Gone are the days of the classroom but for many of us, the monotony of everyday life remains. This study shows that 47 per cent of Canadians are unhappy with our jobs. Add on the increasing pressure to appear successful and happy in the realm of social media and it seems as though there aren’t many outlets for us to truly find the break we’re looking for.

We’ve created the Recess series with this in mind. Those who continue acquiring new skills into adulthood report better stress-management skills, self-esteem, positivity, and feelings of purpose. Like the moments of our childhood where we first learned how to make friends, solve arguments and invent new games, Recess is a safe space for people to learn something new.

Our goal is to create a community of openness and curiosity, free of judgement and full of possibilities.

The first instalment in the Recess series is an open discussion with like-minded people who will be able to speak on how learning a new skill changed the trajectory of their lives for the better. Delving into topics like personal growth, mental health and self-care, both our guest speakers and our audience can share their stories and connect in this intimate space.
