Has Medium Evolved Its Payment Parameters?
We may be unaware of what’s happening
Over the past few days, I’ve been closely monitoring my Medium earnings, and I must admit that I’ve noticed a significant decline. First, I thought maybe it happened because I didn’t write anything over the weekend.
However, as I continued to track my performance, it became evident that this decline in earnings is indeed a real and ongoing issue. It’s raised some concerns, and I’m eager to understand the factors contributing to this drop in revenue.

It’s strange because my recent posts have gotten a lot of claps and comments, so I know people are reading them. My read ratio is over 70%, which is pretty good. But despite all of this, I’m only earning about a dollar, which is way less than usual. It feels like Medium might have gone back to its old way of paying writers, where engagement doesn’t matter as much.
I’m starting to wonder if Medium is hiding how they calculate earnings because it’s a frustrating situation for all the writers. Being more transparent about the earning model would help writers understand what’s going on.
Medium needs to provide clearer information about how writers earn money on the platform. Many writers, including Adrian in the article mentioned, have been facing a decline in their earnings. This situation has caused confusion and frustration among writers because it's not clear why earnings are dropping, especially when there are high engagement and good read ratios.
The medium should take steps to clarify how they calculate payments so that writers have a better understanding of the process. This transparency would go a long way in addressing the concerns and doubts that many writers currently have about their earnings. By being more specific about the earnings model, Medium can help writers like feel more confident and informed about their work on the platform.
