Are you passionate about writing? Do you feel a love for writing and want to transform your passion for writing into a profession, then before jumping into the world of writing, answer the following three questions (but not limited to) yourself.

1. Are you ready to write every day?

2. Are you ready to write even without being paid for the initial months? Do you have a financial backup plan?

3. Are you ready to read a lot?

These are the questions you must consider if you want to transform your passion for writing into a profession.

Are you ready to write every day?

Writing is an art. Like other art (painting, singing, dancing, cooking, etc.), it demands your time, passion, and dedication.

Practice and Patience are vitals. You have to have a dedication to pursuing a writing career. Think about singing- one has to practice every day to become a great singer. You cannot cook occasionally and be a master chef. Even if you are born talented in particular things, you cannot excel without practicing.

“The process of writing can be magical. …Mostly it’s a process of putting one word after another.”- Neil Gaiman.

You have to write every single day. Put down your thoughts.

Are you ready to write even without being paid for the initial months? Do you have a financial backup plan?

I left my 9–5 job to pursue my dream of becoming a writer. I know earning money is difficult through writing passion.

However, I make sure I have two years of savings to ensure writing without money-earning pressure.

If you want to be an entrepreneur, you cannot expect profit immediately after beginning your venture. Every business takes some period (months/years) to reach its breakeven point. After that, one can expect to make a profit. Likewise, you cannot expect to earn decent money immediately after starting your journey in writing professionally. Of course, there are exceptions, but exceptions are not examples.

Are you ready to read a lot?

Reading is mandatory for being a good writer.

It exposes us to different writing styles, patterns, stories, food for thought, and whatnot.
