I Was Afraid They Could Be Offended by My Gift

It wasn’t because I saw them as “struggling and needy”; It was because I understood and I knew these strangers were lovely people deserving better in life

This isn’t the gift I wanted to buy for the kids. I didn’t have a photo of the actual gift, so I used a photo of a little gift I bought for someone else, chocolates and a card with words of appreciation and gratitude. (Photo by Author)

I walked into the Toyworld shop, unsure how to navigate through the exotic aisle of toys. I don’t have kids, so I’m lost as soon as I walk into a toy shop.

“Excuse me. Do you have something with PAW Patrol? If you know what it means as I have no idea…” — I asked the first shop assistant I saw

“Yes, we have. Let me show you,” replied the friendly lady, smiling and ushered me to an aisle full of toys with pictures resembling what Becky had shown me earlier that day.

“Do you have any idea what I could buy for a 3-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy? I don’t have kids, so it’s a bit difficult for me to guess,” — I continued, feeling slightly lost and hopeless but cheerful

“It depends… What do they like?” — asked the lovely lady

“I have no idea… To be honest, I don’t really know these kids… They are permanently living in the motel where I am staying when I come to the city. They are lovely kids, and I just want to buy them a presents for Christmas” — I responded
