“The world’s favourite season is the spring. All things seem possible in May.”-Edwin Way Teale.

Spring is my favourite season as well. The warm sunshine and colorful nature palette around me put a spring in my step, and my productivity soars.

During the last ten days, my husband, a few friends, and I embarked on a sightseeing and pilgrimage tour of some of the best-known cities in northern India. We visited Lucknow, Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, Prayagraj, Bodh Gaya and Patna.

While on this tour, we could see nature’s annual transformation, heralding the arrival of spring.

In all the gardens we visited across the cities we travelled to, the landscape was bursting with vibrant colors and the sweet fragrance of blooming flowers.

During our road trip from Lucknow to Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, Prayagraj, Bodh Gaya, and Patna, we were greeted by the beautiful sight of green fields.

However, the most remarkable sight was the mango trees in full bloom, with flowers in a symphony of white and yellow blossoms against a backdrop of lush green foliage. Each flower held the promise of a juicy mango, ripening under the warm sun, and ready to be plucked and savoured.

As the days grow warmer and the mango trees burst into full bloom, the air becomes infused with the heady scent of their flowers.

This fragrance evokes memories of lazy summer afternoons and carefree childhood days spent beneath the shade of the mango tree. For me, it’s a reminder of the simple joys of life and the timeless beauty of nature’s bounty.

The branches swaying gently in the breeze remind us of the fleeting beauty of each season and savour the moments of joy it brings.

Upon returning home from my long trip, I was delighted to see my balcony garden blooming with the hibiscus, stealing the show.

With their trumpet-like shape, these exquisite flowers add a touch of elegance and charm to the surroundings. As I watch them sway gently in the breeze, I can’t help but feel a sense of wonder and awe at nature’s intricate craftsmanship.

So, as I stand amidst the blossoms in my garden, I am reminded of the beauty surrounding us and the promise of new beginnings that spring brings.

It’s a time to cherish the simple joys of life and revel in the abundance of nature’s gifts. And as the days grow longer and the flowers continue to bloom, I am grateful for the wonders of spring and the colorful tapestry it weaves across the land.

“The first blooms of spring always make my heart sing.” S Brown.

Beyond the visual feast, spring also brings a spirit of celebration in India. The festival of colors, known as Holi, marks the onset of spring. This year, Holi is on the 25th of March, 2024, and everyone in our building is preparing for the Holi celebrations.

It’s a time when people come together to drench each other in vibrant hues, spreading joy and happiness in every splash of colour.

The atmosphere is brimming with joy and laughter as loved ones and acquaintances come together to celebrate this timeless custom.

The only deviation this year is that we won’t be performing a rain dance due to the severe water scarcity in Bangalore.

Thankyou Sahil Patel for such a lovely nature prompt.

I loved the true story from Vera-Marie Landi,

Would also recommend reading short fiction story from Karen Schwartz
