The Story Of My Silent Struggle
Journal Junction Prompt For The Month Of June
Dear Journal,
I am an inhibited person. Since my childhood, I am a person who can’t easily ask for help. I have always been a person who can’t easily express myself. I don’t know why but I am scared to say what I need or ask for help. I have realised this very late on in my life that in my early years when I asked for help, it did not go well.
I felt at certain points that nobody cared. Those tough memories made me believe that I am not good enough or maybe people don’t want to help me. Even I had instances when my loved ones didn’t helped me when I needed it the most.
All such experiences made me think that it’s better to keep my problems to myself only. Hence, I learned to keep quiet and become very good at pretending.
Due to this, sometimes It becomes that tough for me identify what I actually feel vs what I saw to others. I pretend like I didn’t need anybody’s help but deep down I know that it would feel good if someone lend a hand.
There is a part of me who always feels lonely, sad and disappointed. I am afraid what if I tell them and they didn’t help me or just ignore me thinking that I am weak. So, I keep thing to myself and think that things will get better soon on their own.
Whenever I share something about my personal turmoil or emotional roadblocks, I often receive the advice to ask for help, to confide in someone I trust. However, for some people, myself included, asking for help is not easy. However, I am steadily learning to speak up and asking for help when I am in need.
This week’s prompt for Journal Junction is,
Reflect on moments when you’ve felt hesitant to express your true self or guilty about asking for help. Consider what emotional barriers may be holding you back and how they’ve impacted your relationships and personal growth. Write a journal entry reflecting on these silent struggles and share if you feel comfortable. Let’s support each other in breaking free from inhibition.
Here you can learn more about our new column Journal Junction.
I want to invite the writers of Reciprocal to share this month’s prompt. If you don’t want to get tagged do let me know via private notes. I will remove your name from the upcoming prompts. Thanks!
