Fourth-week Prompt of Nature: Twinkling Night

I lived in the country when I was a lot younger. I had to be around 10 or younger when we lived behind a cornfield. I say behind because the road was on the other side of the cornfield. Corn stalks got very high and was hard to see the bottom level of the house from the road.

At night, the magic happened. I could sit on my porch and watch the blinking all over the cornfield. Watching this was like looking into an enchanted world if you entered the cornfield at night.

The porch was the best seat in that area. During the day I could watch the deer in the cornfield come up to the edge of our yard until our dog would chase it away before it got too close to the house.

During thunderstorms, I would sit on the covered porch and watch the lightning fill the sky. I just sat out there watching the lighting and listening to the rain. It was very relaxing to listen to thunderstorms.

It was so amazing to watch. This house was so far in the country that there was no other house for miles and streetlights were not a thing out there. For sure not back then in the mid-80s. Life was…
