It can be quite daunting to be in a room full of strangers, alone. You may feel like you are the only one feeling this way, but rest assured, you are not alone. Many people feel anxious and alone in large groups. The best way to deal with this feeling is to try to engage with someone else in the room.

Smile, strike up a conversation, and you will likely find that the other person is feeling the same way. If you cannot find anyone to talk to, try to find a quiet spot in the room and observe the people around you. This can help you to feel less alone and can also be interesting in its own right.

When you are feeling anxious or alone, it can be helpful to remember that everyone has these feelings at some point. Everyone feels nervous sometimes, and everyone feels alone sometimes. The important thing is to not let these feelings take over your life.

How to think of this, and what to do next:

When uncomfortable among other people, you have the power to generate brand new energy by doing something or saying something. You can clear a path throughout the room and then use that energy in the conversation. It is YOUR space and YOUR power and you need not give them away to others during off times.

If you are feeling depressed, try doing something that makes you happy. This isn’t always as simple as it sounds. When sadness takes us over, we tend to sink into the mire of self-pity, and then we can’t pull ourselves out again.

That’s exactly the right time to work the muscles of willpower!

Go outside, do something creative and fun that you enjoy, or go visit with friends who will make you smile. Do whatever it takes to distract yourself from your depressing thoughts.
