RECKONING Season 1 Episode 8/120

INT. VILLAGE OF HOPE - DAY

The children are playing on the floor with their toys. Ezekiel is walking among them, smiling at them, stroking them on their heads… Some paparazzi are following him, taking pictures of him socializing with the kids. A woman who is taking care of the orphanage wants to introduce him to some of the children, but he is only interested in a girl who is sitting alone in a corner and is drawing something.

EZEKIEL
Why’s that girl alone?

WOMAN
(gloomily)
That is Mary. She’s like that since she got here. Unfortunately, her story is very tragic. Her father was killed in a car accident, and her mother died shortly thereafter. A thief broke into their house and shot her. Mary almost got killed too, but, fortunately, she managed to hide in a closet.

Ezekiel freezes up when he hears that her mother was killed in the same way as his sister, Sara’s mother.

The girl suddenly looks at him. She gets up and carries her drawings to him. He smiles at her and takes the drawings in his hands. The first one shows a happy family in front of a nice suburban house.

EZEKIEL
You’re really talented. When you grow up, you’ll be a famous painter. You’ll see.

She says nothing. Her expression is inscrutable. Ezekiel continues to look at the drawings. The second one is about a young girl flying through the sky, and the third ... the third one shows a young blonde haired girl. Nothing is strange, except someone slit her throat. There are bloody letters In the lower right corner of the drawing. It reads “KATE”.

Ezekiel goes berserk, GRABS Mary’s shoulders and starts to SHAKE her violently.

EZEKIEL
(madly)
WHO GAVE YOU THIS? WHO? ANSWERS ME, GODDAMMIT! WHO?

The woman tries to calm him down. Mary starts to CRY and SCREAM. The other children too. One of the paparazzi wants to take some pictures of this CHAOS, but Ezekiel GRABS his camera, SMASHES it on the floor and RUNS out.
