Reducing the number of cars in New York City won’t happen by diktat, but consensus. To get there, we need more New Yorkers to choose cycling and public transit. Is that a fantasy, or the direction we’re already headed? With a mayoral election on the horizon, Transportation Alternatives enlisted the polling firm Penn Schoen Berland to find out how New Yorkers (especially those who vote in even the most local elections) feel about the past decade’s radical changes to the streetscape, and what they want next.
