Stoicism isn’t just a stuffy old philosophy. It can help us solve some of our most challenges issues today, and cultivate a happier mindset despite the chaos.

Listeners of the show know that Erik and I are big fans of Stoicism. The lessons we’ve taken from Stoicism has influenced a substantial amount of the writing we do on ReConsider about political division. In fact, ReConsider’s Principal’s and Discussion Strategies borrow heavily from Stoic ideas about being aware of your internal state, rather than letting that internal state control your actions and your mind.

Stoicism is relevant today because we’ve been confronted with a a once-in-a-hundred-year pandemic (or let’s at least hope it’s just once for the next 100 years). So much is out of our control, and that’s pretty scary. At its core, Stoicism is a philosophy that investigates what is within our control and what’s not, and how best we should manage our internal experiences given the robust uncertainty with which life confronts people.

With the spread of Covid-19 causing an incredible amount of uncertainty, stress, and suffering, we asked ourselves: how could Stoicism apply to our current situation? And how have these ideas shaped our own reaction to the crisis as it unfolds?

To commemorate the launch of our new, spruced up website (welcome, by the way!), we’ll be doing a full week of Stoic content. The week begins with podcast, which you can listen to here, but we’ll also be sharing our reflections of Stoic quotes, and recounting some of our own experiences with practicing, rather than just pontificating about, Stoic philosophy, so be sure to check out ReConsiderMedia.com throughout the week for new articles.

In our brand new spanking Facebook group, we’ll be having conversation all throughout the week about Stoicism and it’s role, if any, in your life. So be sure to check that out!

Lastly, we’ll also be tweeting stoic quotes from the three big Stoics: Seneca, Epictetus, and Marcus Aurelius. So if you want even more Stoic content, you can follow us here.
