For our first Community Partner project at RED Academy Gabe Morillo, Nadia Hogg, Patrick Weberman, and I were able to partner with a start-up that aims to provide a community-based search engine that would connect users with professionals, resources, and like-minded people. We were also working alongside RED Studios who were designing the on-boarding process and home page. Our task was to create the user dashboard and the search result page.

What we did

We divided the work load up so that each member of our team was leading a different part of the UX Process. I took the lead on the Research phase, which involved devising our research strategy and delegating to the rest of the group. Later in the project, I was able to do some tree testing to optimize their search filter.

Blurred to protect the client’s IP… And to add an air of mystery and intrigue.

How we did it

Scrum, Surveys, Interviews, Affinity Diagrams, Domain Research, Lumascapes, Card Sorting, Agile, Design Sprints, Mobile First, Wire-framing, User Testing, Tree Testing.

What happened

  • Increased the usability of the website.
  • Boosted the success rate of the search filter through tree testing to near perfect results.
  • Successfully incorporated the style tile provided by RED Studios to ensure a cohesive design.
  • Designed a layout that is currently being implemented.

This was a very instructive project and taught us a lot about the UX process and how it should be tailored to each specific situation. I was very grateful for the opportunity to work on such an ambitious undertaking and am proud of the positive effect we had on the usability of our client’s website.
