FEBRUARY 2020

February was a short month and with many requests. A few projects were still on hold from 2019 due to the urgency and priority of projects that unexpectedly cropped up during that 2019. We decided this was an ideal time to kickstart the year with a very worthy project we had been trying to implement since the middle of 2019.

We wanted to do something to show our appreciation to the extremely dedicated, hard-working, and deserving staff who are employed by the Chevra Kadisha in their many departments of caregiving, cleaning, catering, and administration amongst the many others. To this end, we are so happy and proud to say that we made a donation towards a staff incentive program. The intention is to boost the morale of the staff and express our gratitude to them for their efforts in doing their demanding work in a happier environment knowing they are very much appreciated.

Another project, which we participated in during last year was the Arcadia’s sponsor a child’s dream. Arcadia was established in 1903 and has been caring for Jewish children for well over 100 years.

Incorporated into the Chevra KadishaGroup in 2002, most of the children who live at Arcadia are placed there for their own protection either by order of the Children’s Court or through private placements. Full time and well-trained child-care workers supervise and care for the children by day and night. Medical care, education, counselling, play, and homework supervision are all provided and every effort is made to assist Arcadia’s children to achieve their full potential.

A lot of the children from Arcadia would love to take part in some form of extramural activity that most other children are able to do. From ballet, music, and sports to art and drama they dream of being involved in, and part of, one or more of these activities. These are very important activities and developmental influences in a child’s life. They build self confidence, assist children to learn to work in teams, and encourage healthy social integration. The children at Arcadia often aren’t given an opportunity to fulfill their dreams of taking part in any of these activities. We are very excited to be sponsoring some of the children to take part in some of these activities for the first time ever. The children were extremely excited and we look forward to some updates soon.

We look forward to seeing the very positive results of both of these projects. Knowing that once again we were able to bring some much-needed joy into the lives of so many people, young and old makes our efforts so worthwhile.
