November 12th- 16th is Hunger and Homelessness Awareness week here on campus. The office of Student Life and First Year Experience is hosting various events throughout the week to educate students on the issues surrounding hunger and homelessness in the area, with all proceeds and benefits going to local homeless shelters and food pantries.

There will be blanket making on the 12th, a hunger banquet in Keen Johnson on the 13th, a “shut-in for the shut-out” in Martin Hall on the 15th, and “can castle” building on the 16th in Keen Johnson Plaza. In addition to these events, Student Life is hosting a campus-wide food drive for the Colonel’s Cupboard. They will be accepting dry and canned goods, toiletry items, and gently-used clothing from now until the end of November.

Rachael Martin, a student employee for the office of Student Life, said “It’s a really good opportunity for the Colonel’s Cupboard to collect donations for the year. Especially going into winter, it’s really hard on students who do have food insecurity needs, we just want to help them on campus and to reach out. Students, even if you think you aren’t poverty level, anyone can go get a food box or toiletry items, it doesn’t matter what your rank is, it’s there for anyone.”
