A Leg, A Ladder

A poem

God
dangles her leg
down to me
like a ladder
to climb back
up towards
salvation…
If only I
didn’t get so
caught up in
the way
my fingers squeeze
that thigh
and its delicious
fat…or
the way
the light seems
to glisten
upon her skin
like a serpent
wet with
dew.
The harder
I grip,
the quicker
I fall back
down, watching
that limb
swing like
a pendulum
in a grand
father’s
clock.
