With the launch of Tesla Model Y, Elon’s dream of a S3XY line up is complete. Even the listing on Tesla’s official website has changed.

Tesla Homepage

Tesla has launched its new urban crossover Model Y.

Umm…

This just looks like a uplifted Model 3.

Yes you are right if you also thought the same. The Model Y has same underpinnings as the Model 3 and has a bit more of luggage space all thanks to the crossover styling.

The Model Y has almost the same drivetrains as the Model 3 sedan and sits right above the Model 3 in pricing too.

With the trends moving towards SUV’s and crossovers in general, the Model Y seems to be a perfect fit for all the potential buyers.

But overall EV sales are a too low. Only 3% of the cars sold across the world are electric vehicles and out of them most of them are Model 3s.

When Model 3 was launched all the Tesla buyers who were looking for an affordable electric vehicle had a Tesla offering. Eventually, Tesla started to offer many more variants for the Model 3 and the buyers started to diverge from the costlier offerings. The Model 3 Performance was the main sale cutter for Model S as the Model 3 came at around $20k cheaper price tag and offered similar performance and better overall user experience for the price.

Now after the Model Y is out starting at $52,990 for the Long Range AWD version and the Model 3 starting at $48,990 for the same model, the customers will prefer the Model Y cross. The new trends suggest that a SUV or a crossover has larger sales compared to any other car.

Many Tesla fanatics have also reportedly booked the Model Y replacing their Model 3. Evidently, the Model 3 sales are going to fall soon enough Model Y is ready for the mass market.
