Dozens of members of a labour union demonstrated in front of the Central Bank of Lebanon in Beirut on Wednesday against government plans to lift subsidies on medicines, fuel and other essential goods.

Protesters were seen standing in front of the building holding banners while fuel tankers were gathering nearby before soldiers appeared in the area.

The rally called the “Day of Anger and Rejection” was called by the General Confederation of Lebanese Workers (CGTL), in addition to other independent trade unions. Similar protests took place in Baalbek and Tire.
