Investment Premise
Recent technological progress in automation and AI is pushing the frontier of what machines can do. Over the next decade, repetitive manual labor will be displaced by smart hardware technology. It is projected that by 2030 manual tasks will decline by 18%, and basic cognitive tasks will decline by 28%. As embedded AI, sensor technology, and networks continue to improve, hardware will replace a lion’s share of the ~312 hours spent per year managing home chores. Existing product offerings for vacuuming, lawn mowing, and pool cleaning robots have proven consumers are demanding household robots. This momentum has influenced the projected growth of the domestic robotics market at a 22% CAGR to 2027.
Although breaking into the household robotics industry can be daunting due to high CapEx, long design sprints, and convoluted supply chains, Jennifer Bergman, Founder of Otimus, has the experience and passion for alleviating some of the pains. She has industry experience working in aerospace and manufacturing, was a Professor of Engineering and CAD, and has written multiple publications for manufacturing, robotics, and simulation journals. She is a lifelong builder and inventor and has designed numerous products. This experience, coupled with her passion for robotics, has paved a pathway for her founding Otimus, which leverages robotics and steam-based technologies to automate various mundane tasks at home (e.g., laundry and cleaning). With Otimus, Redbud invested in a visionary founder with a unique insight into bridging the gap between reality and robotics.
