CONGRATULATIONS! When a ReDI student finds a job, the whole team is proud and happy about this success. We want to share with you the voices and experiences of our students and partners. How did they meet? Why did it match? How was the start? And what are their goals and vision for the future?

#3: Vincent (Nigerian, 29) ReDI alumnus and volunteer, is now working for CGI as a Software Developer (Working student).

ReDI SCHOOL: Kilian, how did you get connected to Vincent, your new ReDI employee?

Kilian Schlabach, CGI: I met Vincent at the last ReDI School virtual job fair. Prior to the event, he had already inquired about CGI in advance and purposefully struck up a conversation with me. Due to his open manner and taste for knowledge, he immediately stuck in my mind, so I invited him for a personal interview immediately after receiving his application.

ReDI SCHOOL: Why did you hire Vincent?

Kilian: Vincent is an excellent fit for our Innovation Lab (Innovation Technology Campus — ITC), both as a person and in terms of his skills. Especially his positive attitude and his urge to learn new things convinced us all to hire him as a working student at CGI.

ReDI SCHOOL: How were the first weeks together?

Kilian, CGI: After the first introductory meeting, Vincent was able to get to know the entire ITC team and fit in seamlessly within the first week. Over the next few days, he successfully completed all the training sessions and was able to get straight to work on his use cases. Unfortunately, it was a pity that all of this could only take place remotely instead of introducing Vincent personally to the team. Nevertheless, it was a very successful and fun first week for us.

ReDI SCHOOL: Vincent, Congratulations on your new Job. Why did you start studying at ReDI School?

Vincent: My first encounter with ReDI School was at ReDI Munich Summer School 2019 as a student. After which I have been part of ReDI family as a volunteer at ReDI NRW. Though I had some prior IT skills from my country, I joined ReDI School when I came to Germany because I needed a refresher in some tech skills, and also an introduction into Germany’s IT environment.

I also started volunteering because I had the urge to give back to the society through ReDI School, and I feel so fulfilled doing so.

ReDI SCHOOL: What brought you to your new job?

Vincent: CGI is a global company with excellence. They want their members to grow and succeed in their career. I feel that the testimonies of their staff helped encourage me to join the company.

ReDI SCHOOL: How did ReDI support you?

Vincent: ReDI School provided the platform for me to meet my current employer through its Job fair in November 2020. I was able to meet several employers during the career day. I also got an offer from three employers after the career fair, but I choose CGI.

ReDI SCHOOL: How was the start in your new job?

Vincent: My start was very smooth and straight forward. There was adequate planning and provisioning for me. Everything had been setup before I resumed, and that made my resumption stress-free.

ReDI SCHOOL: What are your career goals for the next years?

Vincent: Improve my Programming skills with more languages, and also become more fluent in machine learning and AI.

ReDI SCHOOL: Dream big: What do you want to achieve in your career life?

Vincent: To build systems that helps add value to the society and lead an awesome team.

Thank you Vincent and Kilian! We sincerely hope that all your dreams come true and everything goes well.
