Fresh Ink: Welcoming Fixie, the architect of next gen LLM-powered agents
The Ink: Fixie’s $17M seed funding

The scoop: Language Learning Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT have clearly taken the world by storm. People are already using them to automate content creation, plan travel, get answers to complex questions, write code and so much more. However, this is just the beginning. Not only are models getting more powerful and less expensive to train by the day, but new ones are cropping up regularly. And their true power for businesses will come when LLMs are combined with internal data and business processes to completely change the way work gets done.
Enter Fixie.ai. Fixie is an AI platform for building, hosting and scaling LLM-based apps that connect into a company’s own data sources, systems, and tools. You feed Fixie a natural language request and it knows which LLMs and other APIs to call, how to route requests, pass outputs from one model to the next, and accomplish almost any given task without human interaction.) One way to think about Fixie is that it’s like ChatGPT but you can infinitely extend it with models and skills.
Developers can use Fixie to build new workflows and automate tasks ranging from internal meeting coordination and content creation to completely automated support, reporting, inventory processing — and so many other tasks that typically involve manual work or human intervention. To dig a little deeper, you can also check out our Term Sheet Teardown video with Matt Welsh, Fixie’s CEO, about their launch.
In Practice: A simple example of a workflow you might automate with Fixie would be to take a look at a GitHub project, identify all of the items due within the next 7 days, generate a list of those, then email each of the item owners with a reminder and schedule a sync meeting on each person’s Google calendar to discuss any blockers to shipping on time. Fixie would know to use the GitHub API to view the appropriate project, query it for the requested information, look up those users in your Google Apps directory, generate and send an email, use the Google Calender API to look for available time on calendars and create a meeting invite for all relevant people to meet live. With Fixie’s rapidly growing ecosystem of agents, the sky is really the limit to what you can build with Fixie.
Hot off the Press: Today, Fixie is also launching its developer preview — a cloud-hosted, fully scaled service for building agents and apps with LLMs. It is free (with a per-user daily query limit) and the SDK includes GraphQL and Rest APIs with Python and Javascript bindings. Developers can use Fixie to host their agents and apps — or they can self-host. And while the developer preview is new, Fixie’s community has been growing rapidly over the past few months with 5,000+ Early Access users already building, sharing and extending others’ agents!
Our POV: Fixie will literally change the way work gets done — automating manual work and allowing humans to focus on higher value tasks. We believe Fixie will become the standard for building LLM-based apps and that these apps will facilitate workflows across every role in the enterprise — ultimately unlocking massive productivity gains.
Fixie’s technology sits squarely at the forefront of a new era of software development that leverages the power of LLMs to further automate processes that have previously required engineers to work manually — a game changer for developers and ultimately, the way companies operate. While this is no easy problem to solve, Fixie’s founding team comes from some of the most innovative leaders in AI and tech like Apple, Google, Shopify, and more. We couldn’t be more excited to be joining them on this journey to transform work as we know it!
