People are not Assets

In late 2018, I asked, Why would a consulting company prevent its clients from hiring its consultants? I used this question to highlight something unique about Red Squirrel Technologies. We will never stand in the way of our employees or contractors leaving Red Squirrel and working directly with our clients. We are inspired by the potential in each and every human. We desire that each human have as few roadblocks along their life’s journey as possible. We want our clients to be incredibly successful, and we want the same for our employees and contractors. We refuse to become a roadblock by using a non-solicit clause to prevent two parties from working together if that’s their desire.

As I’ve said before, this flies in the face of the conventional wisdom of service companies who typically need to protect themselves from “losing their people” at all costs. At Red Squirrel, we do not view people as assets. People are agents, capable of more than any of us can imagine. When someone makes a deliberate next step along their life’s journey, we celebrate that!

Recently, we celebrated this principle in action, as our friend Tyler Wymer transitioned from a Red Squirrel contracting role to a full-time Senior Engineer role at our founding, and long-standing client, Ascent RegTech. Tyler remains a member of our Red Squirrel Slack community, and we are eager to see where his engineering talents and quiet confidence take Ascent’s software systems! 🚀
