Downtown Redwood City Welcomes Exciting New Businesses
By Catherine Ralston, Economic Development Manager, City of Redwood City
Several new businesses recently decided to call downtown Redwood City home. Here is a little bit about each of them. We hope you take a moment to stop by and welcome them to the neighborhood.
Cru Wine Bar
Cru, located at the north plaza of the Crossing 900 building (Box Building), is an exciting new venture for owner Donato Scotti. “It’s a completely new concept,” Scotti said. “It’s a rustic cafe by day and a wine bar by night.” Cru, which opened Nov. 2, offers a selection of Italian favorites that you can grab and go or sit and enjoy in their modern rustic restaurant. Start your morning off with a high-end coffee from Italy and at lunch enjoy a “quick service” Roman-style pizza by the slice, or one of the seasonal salads and sandwiches offered. At night, Cru turns into a wine bar serving up wines from around Italy and California, as well as a small plates menu and charcuterie. Another unique feature about Cru is you can also purchase bottles and cases of wine to take home.

Starbucks Reserve, located at the corner of Broadway and Hamilton, is the place where you can find unique coffees and world-class brewing equipment for a whole new tasting experience. While most customers know all about regular brewed coffee or the various espresso drinks Starbucks has become famous for, at the Starbucks Reserve customers can now find out about a variety of innovative brewing methods including Clover-brewed, pour-over, cold brew, nitro cold brew, Chemex and more. They can also taste small-batch coffees roasted at Starbucks’s Reserve Roastery in Seattle. Next time you are in downtown Redwood City and are in need of a caffeine fix, stop by the Starbucks Reserve and learn about a new brewing method.

Lovejoy’s Tea Room
Step into Lovejoy’s Tea Room, a cozy, quirky place filled with mismatched china and furniture — where handmade tea cozies, broken china mosaics and an eclectic assortment of collectibles will delight your eyes. Located at 901 Main Street, the newest Lovejoy’s in Redwood City is similar to one in San Francisco and Pacifica. Lovejoy’s serves teas, scones, tea sandwiches, crumpets and pub fare, among other items. The Redwood City Lovejoy’s offers “traditional tea service in a most unique and unpretentious setting, blending together the traditions of tea service with an eclectic, quirky, and playful spirit.”

Third Wheel Pedi Cab
Third Wheel Pedi Cab will soon be offering an alternative mode of transportation to visitors in the downtown area. These human-powered taxis will be available to pick up guests at the parking garages and drive them to their final destination. This is a great alternative for those who may not be able to walk far but can’t find that parking space near the business they wish to visit. Keep your eye out for these new pedicabs coming soon!
