Stay in the know about the City’s August summer events and enjoy them all month long!

Happy August! With summer flying by, join us again this month for more exciting events happening — movies, art, music, and more! Check out what’s planned for August and make sure to mark your calendars!

AUGUST SUMMER EVENTS

Family Campout

August 9-August 10

Join us for the 3rd Annual Family Campout! This is a great way to gather with family and friends, to introduce camping to your little ones and to experience a great night in the park! Families can enjoy BBQ (grilled by Redwood City firefighters), games, sing-a-long, campfire, yoga, pancake breakfast in the morning, and s’mores.

You’ll be only minutes from your house, but it will feel like you’re miles away! This is a “no- tech” themed event. Please, no pets.

Check-in on Friday, August 9, 5–6:30 p.m.

Check-out on Saturday, August 10 at 9:30 a.m.

2nd Annual Inclusion Festival

August 8, 11 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

The City of Redwood City is proud to be co- sponsoring the 2nd Annual Inclusion Festival. This free event will be an opportunity for people of all ages to celebrate San Mateo County being an inclusive and accessible community. The festival is centered on promoting openness and acceptance of all differences. There will be many activities and entertainment planned for the day, including lawn games, activities for children, and much more! A BBQ lunch will be served on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Picnic en Blanc

August 24, 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

The Redwood City Parks and Arts Foundation and Redwood City Events are excited to host the Fifth Annual Picnic en Blanc. Invite your friends, co-workers or family and come together as a group for a wonderful end-of-summer social event.

Imagine an evening where hundreds of friends and family come together, dressed all in white, to eat, dance, enjoy live entertainment and celebrate the unusual and unexpected. Picnic en Blanc is a nontraditional summer picnic event in a nontraditional location. It’s a simple and beautiful social occasion that celebrates the joy of community!

Salsa Festival Deadline For Entries — August 30

Do you have a great salsa recipe? Amateur and professional salsa chefs can compete for fun and prizes in this mouthwatering and exciting salsa competition at the Redwood City Salsa Festival on September 21, happening throughout Downtown Redwood City, on Broadway between Main and Winslow! The festival runs 12–8 p.m., with the salsa competition taking place from 12–5 p.m.

Deadline for entries is August 30 or when all spaces are full.

Shakespeare in the Park

Celebrating its 37th year, San Francisco Shakespeare Festival brings its performance of “As You Like It” to downtown Redwood City for three weekends in August! The program offers three evening shows on Saturdays and three late afternoon shows on Sundays — all free — in the relaxing outdoor setting of the Sequoia High School Campus.

Kidchella

August 18 — Octopretzel

Redwood City is proud to offer our kids music series for a seventh consecutive year! Sponsored by Redwood City’s Public Library and Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, this series will provide a safe and fun environment for kids to dance, play, and enjoy live music from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Your family will be thrilled to enjoy music, along with an inflatable play-land at the Kidchella concerts this summer!

Art on the Square

August 23, 5–8:30 p.m.

With ART on the Square celebrating its 13th anniversary, you can find high quality work for yourself, your home, and for gifts — all while supporting the local economy and the best of handmade American craftsmanship!

ART on the Square features original jewelry, photography, painting, glass, metal, wood, fiber art and more, created by local artists with work at prices for every budget. You’re invited to join friends, family, neighbors, and the entire community to enjoy Courthouse Square in downtown Redwood City.

Redwood City is renowned for its incredible variety of free concerts and entertainment, featuring top-quality local and national performers. These concerts are a great way to spend your summer with friends, family, and neighbors in downtown Redwood City! Thanks to sponsorship and community support, we are able to continue to bring you these two-hour (6–8 p.m.) high-energy shows that get everyone off their feet dancing and having a great time.

Movies on the Square

August 1 — Incredibles 2 (PG)

Experience Redwood City’s high definition surround sound 25' outdoor theater! Enjoy downtown Courthouse Square by bringing the family out to a free weekly movie all summer. This movie experience will be enhanced with a showing of 12 movies on Thursday evenings starting at sundown (approximately 8:45pm). Come early for the best seats (a limited number of chairs and tables are available).

Movies are shown in high definition Blu-Ray and Surround sound when available. Bring your blankets and pick up take-out food from the nearby wonderful restaurants! We also have a small snack bar on site serving up popcorn, candy, and water.

Courthouse Square is the place to be on Friday nights! Enjoy fourteen nights of music, fun and everything downtown Redwood City has to offer! Redwood City is renowned for its incredible variety of free concerts and entertainment, featuring top-quality local and national performers. With top-quality local and national musical performers — from rock and pop, to reggae and much more — music fans of all ages will be thrilled to discover and enjoy our free summer concert series in Downtown’s living room. Thanks to sponsorship and community support, we are able to continue to bring you these two-hour (6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.) high-energy shows that get everyone off their feet dancing and having a great time.

Reminder: Glass bottled beverages are NOT allowed at events. This policy will be enforced.

Pub in in the Park

August 10 at Mezes Park27 Strings

Come lounge in the park, listen to live Americana and Bluegrass music, sip delicious local brews and enjoy lawn games at Pub in the Park! Our British-style inflatable pub will offer quality beers on tap from local breweries including Blue Oak Brewing, Freewheel Brewing Company, and cider from South City Cider during four Saturdays from June to September. Pub in the Park offers a laid-back space to hang with friends and family and enjoy some cold ones. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for a picnic style afternoon. Food trucks will also be available for guests’ enjoyment.

Sounds of the Shores

August 18 — The Cocktail Monkeys

Head to the shores this summer and enjoy your favorite music on the water’s edge! Redwood City takes its summer music out to Redwood Shores! Marlin Park is located on the lagoons of Redwood Shores and provides a picturesque setting for live music. This show will feature a new food truck, Casablanca. Concerts run from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Library Summer Learning Challenge

All Summer Long

Get Set to Take the Summer Learning Challenge! Kids! Teens! Adults! Everyone can take the challenge. Read or listen and complete fun learning activities. Get prizes for reading all summer long! Visit all four libraries throughout the summer for great performers, weekly drawings, and fun engaging programs.

Magic Lantern 3D Light Show

The Redwood City Improvement Association (RCIA) invites you to experience a 3D video mapping light show! The Magic Lantern 3D Light Show, designed by world-renowned light show artist Bart Kresa, covers the San Mateo County History Museum with an array of colorful lights, taking viewers on an abstract adventure. The 20-minute show is free and family-friendly at 8:30 p.m. on August Tuesday nights!

More Event Details

At events on Courthouse Square, a limited number of tables and chairs will be available. At any event, you can also bring your own setup to be comfortable throughout the event. You are also welcome to bring food to the events. Please remember to help keep Redwood City beautiful by picking up your belongings and any waste before you leave the event.
