Redwood City Summer Events Series: August Events

Each summer month, we will showcase events planned to keep you up to date and in the know!

Wow it’s August already! Join us again this month for even more exciting events happening — movies, art, music, and more!

This blog details what is planned for August. Make sure to mark your calendars and tell your friends!

Family Campout

Join us for the 2nd Annual Family Campout! This is a great way to gather with family and friends, to introduce camping to your little ones and to experience a great night in the park! Families can enjoy BBQ (grilled by Redwood City firefighters), games, sing-a-long, campfire, yoga, pancake breakfast in the morning, and s’mores.

You’ll be only minutes from your house, but it will feel like you’re miles away! This is a “no- tech” themed event. Please, no pets.

Check-in on Friday, August 10, 5–6:30 p.m.

Check-out on Saturday, August 11 at 9:30 a.m.

Superfest Disability Film Festival

August 29, 8–9:30 p.m.

Attend a special movie night on Courthouse Square! The Redwood City Superfest Showcase is a Disabilities Film Festival sponsored by the Civic Cultural Commission. All entertainment has open captions & audio description. Bring food, chairs, blankets, and anything else to enjoy the film!

Salsa Festival Deadline For Entries — August 31

Do you have a great salsa recipe? Amateur and professional salsa chefs can compete for fun and prizes in this mouthwatering and exciting salsa competition at the Redwood City Salsa Festival on September 29, happening throughout Downtown Redwood City, on Broadway between Main and Winslow! The festival runs 12–8 p.m., with the salsa competition taking place from 12–5 p.m.

Deadline for entries is August 31 or when all spaces are full.

Shakespeare in the Park

Celebrating its 36th year, San Francisco Shakespeare Festival brings its performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” to downtown Redwood City for three weekends in August! The program offers three evening shows on Saturdays and three late afternoon shows on Sundays — all free — in the relaxing outdoor setting of the Sequoia High School Campus.

ART on the Square

August 24, 5–8:30 p.m. (With Music on the Square)

ART on the Square brings the best in original fine arts and crafts to downtown Redwood City. Find painting, photography, jewelry, glass, fiber art, woodwork, and more — with prices for every budget.

Pub in the Park

August 18, 11 a.m. — 4 p.m. in Mezes Park — Edgewood Mountain Boys

Come relax in the park, listen to live music, sip delicious local brews and play lawn games at Pub in the Park! Our British-style inflatable pub will offer quality beers on tap from local breweries including Blue Oak Brewing, Freewheel Brewing, and cider from Redwood Coast Cider. Pub in the Park offers a laid-back space to hang with friends and family and enjoy some cold ones. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for a picnic style afternoon. Food trucks will also be available.

The Edgewood Mountain Boys are a Bluegrass Americana band with authentic harmonies rendering the purest in hillbilly roots music. You’ll savor the joy they bring.

Enjoy a night under the stars in downtown Redwood City and bring your family out to a free movie! Experience movies on Redwood City’s high definition surround sound 25’ outdoor theater screen. Bring your blankets, pillows and friends to enjoy a free summer movie! We have a snack bar on site serving popcorn, candy, and water. Thursday evening movies start at sundown (approximately 8:45pm).

Redwood City is renowned for its incredible variety of free concerts and entertainment, featuring top-quality local and national performers. These concerts are a great way to spend your summer with friends, family, and neighbors in downtown Redwood City! Thanks to sponsorship and community support, we are able to continue to bring you these two-hour (6–8 p.m.) high-energy shows that get everyone off their feet dancing and having a great time.

August 19 — The Hipwaders

Redwood City is proud to offer our kids music series for a sixth year!

Listed as one of “25 Best Bands for Kids” by TimeOut New York Kids, The Hipwaders perform all-ages rock ’n’ roll for kids & families. The band has had several top ten songs on XM/SIRIUS Radio including #1 songs, ”Hey Josie!” & “Educated Kid.” Since 2005 they’ve released six award-winning albums, performed across the US and continue to perform throughout the SF Bay Area.

Sponsored by Redwood City’s Public Library and Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, this series will provide a safe and fun environment for kids to dance, play, and enjoy live music from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Your family will be thrilled to enjoy music, along with an inflatable play-land at the Kidchella concerts this summer!

Sounds of the Shores

August 19 — The RiP-TiDEs

Redwood City takes its summer music out to Redwood Shores! Marlin Park is located on the lagoons of Redwood Shores and provides a picturesque setting for live music. There will be food concessions available. Concerts run from 5–7 p.m.

The RiP-TiDEs! are a vintage, 60s-style, rock’n’roll band comprised of six guys- playing a great mix of dance, oldies, and contemporary hits.

Music in the Park

August 22 — Top Shelf

Join us for free music in Stafford Park on Wednesday evenings from 6–8 p.m. Bring blankets and chairs to relax in the park with neighbors and friends, while listening to live music. Enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, potato chips, and drinks, from the concession stand graciously operated and donated by the Optimist Club of Redwood City. All proceeds benefit the Save the Music program in Redwood City Schools.

At events on Courthouse Square, a limited number of tables and chairs will be available. At any event, you can also bring your own setup to be comfortable throughout the event. You are also welcome to bring food to the events. Please remember to pick up your belongings and any waste before you leave the event.
