Redwood City Summer Events Series: July Events

Each summer month, we will showcase events planned to keep you up to date and in the know!

Summer is flying by! Happy July Redwood City! Join us again this month for more exciting events happening — movies, art, music, and more!

Here is what’s planned for July! Make sure to mark your calendars!


Fourth of July

The 80th Annual 4th of July Parade by the Peninsula Celebration Associationa Family 4th — is the premier holiday parade in the region and takes place in the heart of Downtown Redwood City. This treasured event brings thousands of excited spectators to enjoy an incredible array of parade floats and numerous family festivities. After the parade and festival, spectators can enjoy a spectacular 4th of July fireworks show launched from the Port of Redwood City. Please keep in mind that personal fireworks are illegal in Redwood City. Redwood City police will be on patrol and respond to calls as they are able to. The use of personal fireworks could lead to $50,000 fines and jail time. Don’t take the risk. Keep our community safe.

Chalk Full of Fun

Chalk full of fun is an amazing event that takes place as part of our fourth of July festivities! Watch incredible chalk artists create amazing masterpieces on Courthouse Square. There will be plenty of chalk available for those who want to join in the fun! The event takes place July 3, 8 a.m. — 6 p.m. and July 4, 8 a.m. — 4 p.m.

PAL Music Festival

July 27, 6–8:30 p.m. & July 28, 12–8 p..m

PAL’s biggest day of summer comes every year through the sound waves of some of the Bay Area’s hottest bands. The PAL Music Festival is bound to be lively with bands including Journey Revisited, Toree McGee & Rodeo House Band, Orquesta Pacheco, Livewire Cover Band, Maxx Cabello Jr., and Bayonics. Enjoy music, art, food, and activities for kids at this fun summer event.

This event helps support PAL’s educational and recreational summer programs for the children in our community.

ART on the Square

July 27, 5–8:30 p.m. (With Music on the Square)

July 28, 12–7 p.m. (At the PAL Music Festival)

ART on the Square brings the best in original fine arts and crafts to downtown Redwood City. Find painting, photography, jewelry, glass, fiber art, woodwork, and more — with prices for every budget.

Jewelry on the Square

July 13, 5–8:30 p.m.

Jewelry on the Square brings the best in unique jewelry to downtown Redwood City. Enjoy shopping as you listen to live music coming from the Square. Jewelry on the Square is brought to the community by ART on the Square.


Pub in the Park

July 21 in Red Morton Park — 27strings

Come relax in the park, listen to live music, sip delicious local brews and play lawn games at Pub in the Park! Our British-style inflatable pub will offer quality beers on tap from local breweries including Blue Oak Brewing, and cider from South City Cider. Pub in the Park offers a laid-back space to hang with friends and family and enjoy some cold ones. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for a picnic style afternoon. Food trucks will also be available.

27strings is known for its strong vocals, great harmonies, and fast-paced fiddle tunes, playing traditional as well as contemporary bluegrass. With the versatility of five dynamic voices, the band’s repertoire includes arrangements with varied combinations of two, three and four-part harmonies, creating an energy that distinguishes 27strings performances.

Movies on the Square

July 5— The Sandlot (PG)

July 12 — Beauty and the Beast *Sing Along* (PG)

July 19— Wonder (PG)

July 26 — Wonder Woman (PG-13)

Enjoy a night under the stars in downtown Redwood City and bring your family out to a free movie! Experience movies on Redwood City’s high definition surround sound 25’ outdoor theater screen. Bring your blankets, pillows and friends to enjoy a free summer movie! We have a snack bar on site serving popcorn, candy, and water. Thursday evening movies start at sundown (approximately 8:45pm).

Redwood City is renowned for its incredible variety of free concerts and entertainment, featuring top-quality local and national performers. These concerts are a great way to spend your summer with friends, family, and neighbors in downtown Redwood City! Thanks to sponsorship and community support, we are able to continue to bring you these two-hour (6–8 p.m.) high-energy shows that get everyone off their feet dancing and having a great time.

July 22 — Purple Fox and the Heebie Jeebies

Redwood City is proud to offer our kids music series for a sixth year! Purple Fox and the Heebie Jeebies is a fun and funky band that will bring an interactive experience for kids of all ages. Sponsored by Redwood City’s Public Library and Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, this series will provide a safe and fun environment for kids to dance, play, and enjoy live music from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Your family will be thrilled to enjoy music, along with an inflatable play-land at the Kidchella concerts this summer!

Sounds of the Shores

July 22 — Cocktail Monkeys

Redwood City takes its summer music out to Redwood Shores! Marlin Park is located on the lagoons of Redwood Shores and provides a picturesque setting for live music. There will be food concessions available. Concerts run from 5–7 p.m.

The Cocktail Monkeys bring you more than exciting music and perfect vocal harmony; they bring fun and camaraderie to each show. With an alluring and powerful stage presence, from the first song, Renee and the guys lead you through a fantasy evening covering your favorite songs by your favorite bands.

Music in the Park

July 11— The Gator Nation Band

July 18— Tortilla Soup

July 25 — Kyle Rowland Blues Band

Join us for free music in Stafford Park on Wednesday evenings from 6–8 p.m. Bring blankets and chairs to relax in the park with neighbors and friends, while listening to live music. Enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, potato chips, and drinks, from the concession stand graciously operated and donated by the Optimist Club of Redwood City. All proceeds benefit the Save the Music program in Redwood City Schools.

Classical Series

July 22, 6 p.m. —Opera San José

For the classical, instrumental and opera music lover, or anyone who appreciates great musical talent, these concerts are for you! Families will love these free concerts, performed outdoors on beautiful Courthouse Square.

Opera San José is a professional, regional opera company that is unique in the United States. Maintaining a resident company of principal artists, Opera San José specializes in showcasing the finest young professional singers in the nation.

At events on Courthouse Square, a limited number of tables and chairs will be available. At any event, you can also bring your own setup to be comfortable throughout the event. You are also welcome to bring food to the events. Please remember to pick up your belongings and any waste before you leave the event.
