SUMMER EVENTS IN JULY

Fourth of July Parade

The Peninsula Celebration Association’s 81st annual Fourth of July Parade — is the premier holiday parade in the region and takes place in the heart of Downtown Redwood City. This treasured event brings thousands of excited spectators to enjoy an incredible array of parade floats and numerous family festivities. This entire day of events is planned for all ages to enjoy, including plenty of free activities such as the annual pancake breakfast, a 5k run, Chalk Full of Fun, and concerts. After the parade and festival, spectators can enjoy a spectacular 4th of July fireworks show at the Port of Redwood City.

Although fireworks were banned in 2014, illegal fireworks continued to impact neighborhoods in 2017, prompting the City to increase fines up to $50,000 and expand educational efforts. To further the momentum of last year’s decreased illegal fireworks use, the City adopted a Social Host Ordinance which provides stronger enforcement by holding event organizers and property owners responsible for illegal fireworks use onsite. The new regulations are not intended to be used to seek out violations, but will be an important tool for law enforcement to increase compliance by holding persons in control of the property accountable for the illegal use of fireworks.

The City encourages the community and visitors instead to attend the fireworks show hosted at the Port of Redwood City.

The Fourth of July celebration schedule below can help you plan your day:

7:00 a.m. — 10:30 a.m. Pancake Breakfast with Redwood City Fire Department at 755 Marshall Street

8:00 a.m. Parade Run 5k (check-in 6:30–7:59 a.m. Warren Street between Bradford and Marshall Streets). Starting line is at the corner of Arguello and Marshall Streets.

8:00 a.m. — 4:00 p.m. Chalk Full of Fun on Courthouse Square (Wednesday July 3rd and Thursday, July 4)

9:00 a.m. Car show at Broadway and El Camino

10:00 a.m. Fourth of July Parade

9:00 a.m. — 5:00 p.m. Festival

7:00 p.m. — 9:00 p.m. Concert at the Port of Redwood City with the Blue- Coastside Cool Band

9:30 p.m. Fireworks Celebration at the Port of Redwood City

Details about the Fireworks Show at the Port: The Fourth of July Fireworks Extravaganza takes place at the Port of Redwood City and is brought to the community by the City of Redwood City and the Port of Redwood City and sponsors including Sims Metal Management, Recology, Sares Regis, and County Consumer Plumbing Service & Repair Group. There will be food trucks available from 7:00 p.m. — 9:00 p.m. The Blue- Coastside Cool Band will play at the Port’s waterfront access area beginning at 7:00 p.m. The fireworks show will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. The fireworks can be seen from areas where there is a clear view of the skies above the Port, and from high points all over the Peninsula. The Port is providing a public viewing area along the waterfront off Seaport Court. Portable restrooms and sinks will be available. BBQs are not permitted, alcohol is prohibited on-site at the fireworks show, and personal fireworks are always illegal in Redwood City.

Port of Redwood City Event Parking and Limited Vehicular Access: For those coming to the Port, early arrival is highly recommended, as the area is private property with very limited public parking. Once public parking is filled, Seaport Boulevard will be closed to all vehicle traffic at the intersection of Seaport/Blomquist. Once the intersection has been closed, no vehicle access to the Port area will be available. This traffic control restriction could occur as early as 7:00 p.m.

PLEASE NOTE: Just prior to the conclusion of the fireworks show, southbound access to Highway 101 from Seaport will be closed. Vehicular traffic will be diverted to Northbound Highway 101 only as this is the fastest and safest way out of the area.
