Summer Events Blog Series: July Events
We hope everyone had a fantastic time in Redwood City celebrating the 4th of July! We sure did! To keep the fun going for the rest of the month, Redwood City offers something for everyone!
The first week of each summer month, we will showcase events planned for the next month to keep you up to date and in the know!
Movies on the Square
Enjoy downtown Redwood City on Courthouse Square by bringing the family out to a free movie! Experience Redwood City’s high definition surround sound 25’ outdoor theater. Movies are shown in high definition Blu-Ray and surround sound when available. Bring your blankets and pick up take-out food from the nearby wonderful restaurants! We also have a small snack bar on site serving up popcorn, candy, and water. Thursday evening movie nights start at sundown (approximately 8:45 p.m). Come early for the best seats (a limited number of chairs and tables are available).

Music on the Square
Redwood City is well known for its events, but Friday night’s Music on the Square is one of the most treasured nights of summer! Thanks to sponsorship and community support we are able to continue to bring you these two hour (6–8 p.m.) high-energy shows that get everyone off their feet dancing and having a great time.

Classical on the Square
For the classical, instrumental and opera music lover, or anyone who appreciates great musical talent! Families will love these free concerts, performed outdoors on beautiful Courthouse Square.

Sounds of the Shores
Redwood City takes its summer music out to Redwood Shores! Marlin Park is located on the lagoons of Redwood Shores and provides a picturesque setting for live music. There will also be food concessions available. Shows are 5–7 p.m.

Music in the Park
Join us for free music in the park on a summer evening from 6–8 p.m. Families and friends will be thrilled to take part in our free outdoor concert series at beautiful Stafford Park. There is a concession tent selling hamburgers, hot dogs, potato chips, and drinks, graciously operated and donated by the Optimist Club of Redwood City. All proceeds benefit the Save the Music program in Redwood City Schools.

Kidchella
Redwood City is proud to offer our kids music series for a fourth year! The ubiquitous Andy-Z will be the Master of Music and Play by bringing his high energy to Courthouse Square. Sponsored by Redwood City’s Public Library and Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, this series will provide a safe and fun environment for kids to dance and enjoy live music from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Your family will be thrilled to enjoy free live music, along with an inflatable play-land at the Kidchella this summer!

ART on the Square
ART on the Square brings the best in original fine arts and crafts to downtown Redwood City. 2017 marks our eleventh year of showcasing painting, photography, jewelry, glass, fiber art, woodwork, and more — with prices for every budget. At each Friday evening ART on the Square we’ll hold a drawing for four $25 gift certificates that winners can spend on the artist’s work of their choice during the show.

Magic Lantern 3D Light Show
The Redwood City Improvement Association (RCIA) invites you to experience a new 3D video mapping light show in honor of Redwood City’s 150th anniversary! The Magic Lantern 3D Light Show is designed by world-renowned light show artist, Bart Kresa, and projects weekly onto the San Mateo County History Museum. The new Magic Lantern projection-mapping spectacle brings Redwood City’s past and present into the future.
The Magic Lantern 3-D Show will cover the San Mateo County History Museum with an array of colorful lights taking viewers on an abstract adventure through Redwood City’s history. The show, titled RWC 150, depicts a mysterious time-travelling robot, from the days of redwood forests, through the hippie movement, and into the rise of Silicon Valley. The 20-minute show is free and family-friendly!
Shows are for all ages and are approximately 20 minutes in length.
