The first week of each summer month, we will showcase events planned for the next month to keep you up to date and in the know!

Redwood City offers a ton of free events to help you, your family and friends kick off summer early.

June 21st marked the official first day of summer. School is out and summer is finally here! With so many events happening in downtown Redwood City, you can make this summer an unforgettable one!

CELEBRATE IN REDWOOD CITY THIS 4th OF JULY

What better way to kick off July events than with Redwood City’s 78th annual 4th of July Parade? This Fourth of July, Redwood City has an entire day of events planned for all ages to enjoy including plenty of free activities such as the annual parade downtown, a pancake breakfast, a 5k run, Chalk Full of Fun, concerts, and fireworks launched from the Port of Redwood City. Combined Fourth of July (Monday, July 4th) Celebration Events Schedule

7:30 am-10:30 am- Pancake Breakfast with Redwood City Fire Department
8:45 am- Parade Run 5k (check-in 7–8:30 a.m.)
8 am- 4 pm- Chalk Full of Fun (Also, Sunday 7/3 8–6 p.m.)
9 am- Car show
10 am- July 4th Parade
Following the Parade- 10 pm- Carnival (Also, Saturday & Sunday from 12 p.m.-10 pm)
9 am-5 pm- Festival
7 pm- Concert at the Port with the Megatones
9:30 pm- Fireworks Celebration

Chalk Full of Fun

During the July 4th weekend, Redwood City welcomes back the 2nd Annual Chalk Full of Fun Festival over a span of two days since it was so much fun last year! Watch the Square come to life on July 3rd from 8 am — 6 pm and July 4th from 8 am — 4 pm as artists of all sorts show off their talent using the Square as their canvas. KNOW BEFORE YOU GO!

Drones are strictly prohibited in Redwood City. Persons flying drones at Redwood City events are subject to criminal and civil fines.

Need parking details? Garages will be restricted for the July 4th Parade.

Jefferson and Marshall garages will be accessible from 6 am till 8:45 am. Access to them will then be closed off due to the parade. Access will reopen around 1 pm. Between 8:45 am and 1 pm anyone that parks there will not be able to leave. The Jefferson Garage will only be accessible from the west side of Jefferson from the El Camino Real.

Crossing 900 will be accessible from 8 am till 8:45 am. Access to it will then be closed off due to the parade. Access will reopen around 1 pm. Between 8:45 am and 1 pm anyone that parks there will not be able to leave.

County Garage will be accessible during all periods from Veterans Boulevard. The County Garage and any non-restricted street parking will be free to park in. The Jefferson, Marshall and Crossing 900 will all cost their standard parking fees.

PAL BLUES, MUSIC, ARTS, & BBQ FESTIVAL

Celebrate the 11th annual Redwood City PAL Blues, Music, ARTS & BBQ Festival 2016 at Courthouse Square on July 22 from 5–8:30 pm and July 23 from 12–8 pm. The PAL Blues Festival offers wonderful live music, delicious food, and showcases Redwood City’s Courthouse Square, along with Redwood City’s downtown merchants and restaurants. Proceeds from this fun and exciting family festival directly benefit the important youth programs of the Redwood City PAL.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO!

Dress comfortably, put on some sunscreen, and perhaps wear a hat to protect yourself from the sun. It will be hot out there.

Wear shoes you feel comfortable strolling and dancing in.

Please bring “low profile” or “sports” chairs if you would like to be seated during the event. There will be limited seating available.

MOVIES ON THE SQUARE

Movies on the Square continues in July with more popular movies for the whole family to enjoy! The beautiful Courthouse Square comes to life with high definition surround sound and 25’ screen and outdoor theater. Bring your blankets and pick up some take-out food from one of our many restaurants downtown. Movies on the Square are offered every Thursday evening at sundown, at approximately 8:45 p.m.

MUSIC ON THE SQUARE

Spend your Friday nights on Courthouse Square at Music on the Square dancing and enjoying live music. This July there will be live performances of modern rock, blues, reggae and even a Journey Tribute! Music fans will find it hard to stay off their feet dancing to great music all summer long starting at 6 p.m. every Friday evening.

CLASSICAL ON THE SQUARE

The classical series is back this year featuring Opera music on Sunday, July 17 at 6 p.m. The Bayshore Lyric Opera will entertain you with breathtaking, passionate, inspiring opera for a special two hour show. The greatest singers in the Bay Area will perform the world’s most beloved opera arias and ensembles from master composers like Verdi, Puccini, Bizet, Gounod, Mozart, and Mascagni. This year features The Marriage of Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart! Opera music lovers won’t want to miss out!

SOUNDS OF THE SHORES

On July 17 from 5–7 pm at Marlin Park, the Cocktail Monkeys will be performing some of your all-time favorite pop, rock and dance covers with a scenic backdrop! Pack a picnic dinner or enjoy the Food Truck that will be on site.

MUSIC IN THE PARK

There’s more music to enjoy in July at Stafford Park at Music in the Park every Wednesday from 6–8 pm. Family, friends and neighbors are sure to relish in the park listening to great music from funk, soul and blues to Celtic rock and bluegrass. Pack some dinner or don’t. There will be a concession tent selling hamburgers, hot dogs, potato chips and drinks so it will be an evening for all to enjoy.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO!

Please drive slowly, pay close attention to pedestrians — especially the little ones, and take great care to not block driveways when parking your car.

We ask that you please take into account the height of your picnic chairs and try to not impede the line of site for the majority of folks who will be sitting in low chairs or on picnic blankets. Please, no umbrellas.

There will be a concession tent selling hamburgers, hot dogs, potato chips and drinks, graciously operated and donated by the Optimist Club of Redwood City. All proceeds benefit the Save the Music program in Redwood City Schools.

Portable grills are not allowed.

Beer and Wine are okay to bring during this event in the park. Please drink responsibly.

KIDCHELLA

Redwood City’s kid music series Kidchella premieres July 17 from 11 am-1 pm! Kids of all ages are invited to join Andy-Z, Master of Music and Play, as he brings his high energy to Courthouse Square. The Hipwaders will perform their live music as they’ve had several top ten songs on XM/SIRIUS Radio including #1 songs, ”Hey Josie!” & “Educated Kid”. This kid music series provides a safe and fun environment for kids to dance and enjoy live music along with an inflatable play-land at Kidchella this summer!
