We had the pleasure of sitting down with Garlam Won, founder of Momentum 6. Momentum 6 is marketing + investment firm that architects momentum for crypto and blockchain projects

1) What are your views on the role of influencers in the DeFi space?

Garlam: Influencers are the educators in this space. Their voice is heard by both- (a) retail, and (b) sophisticated investors. Influencers should share original content and share their unbiased views. They should also disclose if they have some vested interest in the project they are sharing their views on.

(2) What are some ways in which DeFi will evolve as a category to encompass gaming, etc.?

Garlam: Hmm, very interesting question. With passage of time, DeFi can offer numerous advantages to gaming sector e.g. imagine a ERC-20 based NFT exchange where you could trade your “rare collectibles” on a DEX. How powerful would that be for gamers? Imagine earning $$ by lending a NFT governed by smart-contract protocols itself? Boundless possibilities that haven’t been explored yet.

(3) What are your views of DeFi versus OpenFi versus CeFi? Are these useful terms?

Garlam: DeFi is revolutionary. With DeFi you take ownership of your assets, you do on-chain activities (which tremendously impacts the network activity on the blockchain), you earn decent APYs (much more than CeFi/TradFi). Though CeFi has its merits as well- lowers fees on trades, fast execution, etc. something which DeFi is lacking right now…

(4) What are some of your investment theses?

I take a lot of things into consideration, but the three core-things I look at are
(1)The product has to solve a problem, a pain point.
(2) I look at the team’s background, do they have the relevant experience to deliver on their promises?
(3)Finally, the Tokenomics. I have to be sure tokenomics are sustainable and counterbalance the risk I am taking as an investor.

(5) What is your unique value add as an investor?

Having gone through marketing multiple successful projects including Harmony, the Sandbox, MANTRADAO, apy finance, KIRA, etc I’m have unique viewpoint on how to architect the marketing strategy that builds momentum for the projects. With ample of amount of connection in the space with various different projects, exchanges, vendors, KOLs and funds I can be very versatile in helping projects out in different capacities.

(6) Why did you invest in Reef?

I think DeFi on Polkadot is an excellent opportunity for investors. Polkadot solves a lot of problem which is plaguing ETH right now. Plus it is interoperable. REEF building a smart DeFi platform on top PolkaDot with it’s unique core value propositions was what got me excited.
