Witnet Launches Reef Support to Bring Truly Decentralized Oracles to the Reef Ecosystem
Reef is happy to announce that Witnet, the decentralized oracle that is true to the censorship resistant nature of blockchains, has made its multichain oracle available to developers building on Reef! Reef developers can now get access to Witnet tooling such as price feeds for lending protocols, or data feeds like weather or sports, through publicly available APIs, and along with Witnet’s randomness oracle. Randomness oracles are often used in non-fungible token (NFT) collections to ensure each mint is generated with verified randomness to prevent any malicious behaviour from occurring.
Reef developers can now take advantage of the Witnet blockchain’s strong cryptoeconomic incentive afforded to them, and utilize it to ensure their smart contract can get off-chain information to allow for contract execution.
This new deployment brings important tooling to Reef, making it easier than ever to build amazing decentralized applications on Reef chain, regardless of whether they need on-chain and/or off-chain data.
Oracles are often put to use in a variety of ways including:
- Access to fiat currency prices
- Amalgamating multiple data feeds for accuracy or averages
- Verified randomness
- Verify occurrence of events
