Since I am more and more involved with deeptech in Europe, I can only tell that this period of time is incredibly chaotic and intense. For better or worse remains to be seen. Maybe one day I will write an article about EU trying to behave like a startup. Today is still too early for that.

Anyhow, times are interesting. Event industry is shifting and reshaping. One absolutely anecdotical observation — I haven’t had time to dig deeper into this — is that Facebook seems to have lost relevance to event organizers. Or maybe I missed a memo where Facebook requested to not add new events to their platform anymore. However, since my side business is checking event information regularly and following updates on social media I can only tell that majority of conference organizers in tech ecosystem do not enter “event” information on Facebook anymore. They might still post announcements on the feed and maybe push ads onto people to purchase tickets, but “event” as an object barely exists on Facebook anymore. Yes, I mean that specific area on the profile under heading “events”. Go, check yourself and let me know how many events you know for sure are going to happen rather soon-ish that have Facebook account but not a dedicated “upcoming” event in their profile.

Not sure what are the reasons behind this trend. Too tired to enter the same information on Hopin, Eventbrite and Facebook? Facebook doesn’t show traction anymore? Or is it losing relevance entirely with other media taking over for communicating with the audience?

The fact is: more and more tech events are simply not found on Facebook anymore. What a weird ripple in the world wide web.
