Navigator for events during 29 March — 04 April 2021

This guide will be kept short and sweet. I’d like to share my appreciation to some outstanding organizations and individuals that are doing incredible work in the European event space.

First, a disclaimer — I have been involved with the Pirate Summit for several years as an Ambassador for BiH and wider Western Balkan region. Their summer event was always on my must-attend list, and I can’t wait to meet that crazy crew and even crazier attendees again. That, however, is not a reason to give a shoutout to PIRATEx event production agency behind the Summit. The reason is the amazing job they have been doing for a year of online events and sharing insights via their great podcast. And they have also shared the PIRATEx Eventtech Tools Directory, a crowdsourced list of tools, technologies and software for event organizers to assist in all aspects of producing virtual events. It’s free and publicly available, lists 348 tools at the moment of writing the guide, and is an invaluable resource for any event organizer.

Another organization to keep in mind and follow on all social networks is Startup Sesame — the first and strongest network of tech events in Europe. Check their blog to get an overview of major happening and shifts in the European event space, however, the crown jewel here definitely is their podcast, run by one and only Dan Taylor. Sharp dialogues with a sprinkle of snark, outstanding guests and talks events, art, the tech industry, science, entrepreneurship, music, venture capital, and everything in between. Oh, and follow Ben Constantini, mastermind begind everything Sesame-related, for event memes (and more). A very welcome refresh for your Twitter feed.

Last but not least, I’d like to mention Van Dusseldorp’s Future of Events newsletter where I often turn for an inspiration. For example, issue 10 is an exploration of online and hybrid events by concluding that there a growing, dedicated, ticket-buying audience for virtual events. My 2 cents on that observation is that such events tend to be of entertainment character — which makes overall sense but doesn’t answer existential questions for tech / entrepreneurial conference organizers.
