In last edition I wrote about increasing optimism in the European eventscape to return in-person conferences which, frankly, makes some people quite happy about. There are signals โ€” some events announce sales of tickets for physical participation, some speakers share their first in-person bookings since the start of pandemic, some startups are taking risks and buying flight tickets for autumn season. Signals are still weak, but they are there.

Thus it has been quite interesting to read an article with overview of scientific research efforts in Europe that are trying to figure out what is safe and what is not in current conditions. And letโ€™s say so: I am genuinely happy with this approach. There is less discussion about freedoms and ideologies and more of experiments to figure out how coronavirus is spreading in event environment.

Did you know that Pareto principle also applies here? Apparently, around 10โ€“20% of infected individuals seem to be accountable for 80% new infections? Or that the risk of infection is 1 in 100,000 per hour, according to Fieldlab study?

Of course, most of the test events involve rapid testing prior and majority of them request wearing masks during. But the being said, it seems that organizers can start thinking about pushing boundaries for the events while society at large is moving closer to herd immunity status.
